I've split my case 3-4 times and have never seen anything like that. It looks nothing like failed bearings, IMO, and I'm sure urbanmadness would agree. You'd have a ton of tiny silvery metallic flakes all over anyway.
Not sure what engine you have, my experiences are from the 139qmb, and it looks like it doesn't even belong in the engine anywhere...period, IMO.

Looks like the spark plug boot retaining clip, some plug boots have them to help prevent them from vibrating off. Could have flown in when you removed the plug boot with the head off.

Have you checked your chain tensioner ? I'm wondering if it may be part of the internals ?

It looks more like a spring , something like a spring from a gun magazine. That is pieces of a spring.

Looks like a broken one of these? If so it was put there by someone.

I can't see the pics at work and I won't have time to look at them until Saturday evening.
Does it look like the spring from a ball point pen? If so, it's the lip spring from an oil seal.

Ok... think I figured it out. I think you have a valve seal that came apart.
Some of the valve seals have a spring that wraps around them some don't. Some have a metal band that wraps around them, and some don't. Some have both. Depends on how the seal is made and it differs from manufacture. Do a google image search on "gy6 valve seal".
I think it came apart. and the band, probably made it's way into the crank case thru the cam cavity then down into the sump.
Is it burning oil?

Well that is a mysterious one for sure. I would think a paper clip too. But a oil seal is a possibility though. But the oil seals I see have a long tiny spring wrapped around the inner seal area. So those pieces don't look like a oil seal spring tensioner to me. I can't think of anything off hand that it could be. It could have been pieces that got into the engine when the engine was assembled at the factory too.

hard to know. it has a very slow leak basically since day 1. i'm going to pull the head tomorrow. i'll post pics if anything looks unusual.

Again, I'm thinking valve seal. some have both a band (or clip) and a spring.
It wouldn't be unheard of if it a piece of junk got in it at the factory (rare factory option?)

all my problems started when i filled my tank with bad fuel. this scoot was running very well until i got water in the tank. it bucked like a bronco for many miles before i finally got all the water out of the tank. scoot seemed fine (don't recall for how long) but then the erratic idle started making it impossible to tune the carb.
since then i been replacing every worn out part i have found. hopefully pulling the head will shine some light on my scooter troubles. i do think running it with water in the tank may have messed up a valve.
