so for the past week or so I have been noticing my mix has been getting richer and richer each day. Yesterday I could smell gas burning, today I see a little bit of white smoke and it has trouble idling. It however seems to run even better than before a week ago in the high end, like it has more gas for the high end now, but when I'm in the low end it sometimes stalls. I have been turning the mix screw towards laen a little bit each day which seems to help, but then the next day it has trouble and I end up needing to turn it a bit more lean each day to balance it out. The idle enricher seems to be working fine, it kicks in extra gas when I start for about 30 seconds to a minute. I am also noticing gas coming out of the bent vent tube on the carb.

What have the temps been? This is the time of year when it's cold enough in the morning to need to run rich, and warm enough in the afternoon to need to lean it out. Cold air has more oxygen in the same space, so it needs more fuel, warm air is the opposite and needs less fuel.

Cold air has more oxygen in the same space, so it needs more fuel, warm air is the opposite and needs less fuel. Mostly between 35-45 in the past week. I only rode once at night in the last week and it bogged then too, but not as bad. I've mostly been riding in 40-45 degrees weather. I feel like it's either not firing the sparks right or it is getting more gas than it needs somehow even though I keep turning it leaner. I already suspected my coil to be going bad anyways, it has been acting wierd in the low end for some time. I have a casoli CDI and a new coil on the way. Could a bad fuel pump force more gas than needed into the carb? I am just confused as to why I am seeing gas come out of the L shaped rubber hose thing on the carb. Is that normal? Should I maybe replace the rubber L piece with a tube to drain to a safer location? Oh, and earlier when I went to start it up it was kicking back a couple times. I am using a stock OEM type CDI atm.

Fuel coming out the drain elbow indicates your float valve may not be working properly.

Fuel coming out the drain elbow indicates your float valve may not be working properly. How would I go about tackling it if it were the problem? The bowl doesn't seem to have any gas in it when I take the cover off, the diaphram doesn't seem to have any dents or holes or tears in it. Would this be solved by dropping the needle?

I'm at work now, check out videos on YouTube on how to check your float valve.

I'm at work now, check out videos on YouTube on how to check your float valve. I'm sorry man but this doesn't make sense to me. How do you adjust the float when it sits on a bar that does not move up or down? It is held on the bar with tiny metal piece thinner than staples, i'm afraid if I do anything on this part I'm just going to ruin it. It moves into the hole and out fine, it's not locked up or anything weird. Also, I am looking into the carb and I noticed there is a hole next to the hole that you put the throttle needle in on the black slide thing. When I screw in the needle it is not covered, but I think it can be blocked by the metal gaurd thing holding the needle in place that I have to screw in? It it supposed to be open or blocked?

You have to bend the little bracket the float is on , one way and it will close sooner another way it will close later.

Installed the Casoli CDI, it works so much better now! It idles without issues, goes up and down through the ranges without issues. I feel it is a little rough though, and the oil looks dirty, so I'm going to go out get some oil and change it. It also still has the same exact issue starting as with the stock CDI, where sometimes I have to rev it lightly to start it. Could that be caused by dirty oil?

So I changed the oil, it was super black even though I changed it a month ago. I changed it to Castrol magnatec 5w-30 synthetic. I noticed there were a few small pieces of gasket in the old oil, so I am guessing my weird starting issue must be linked to the pieces I found in my oil. It looks like a piece of the regular kind of silver gasket stuff. So I suppose my issue could be bad vacuum pressure caused by bad gasket somewhere.
