I can't knock the blue racing cdi's , I've had one that has performed great for about 4 yrs now . I can't really varify the kickbacks , however I have had some starting issues with a weak battery . I've had what I would call a slight backfire at startup with a weak battery . not that often but it does happen. Never with a good battery . will this cause issues ? Can't really say . I did recently have a starter clutch go bad , but I cannot say what caused this . my scoot had about 18,000 miles on it when it happened.

No way of knowing now, but I would bet a small sum that if you had an advancing angle cdi, your starter clutch might not have been messed up.

I would love to know, as would many others I'm sure. I would also love to know how many possibly had the same issue but thought it was the crank and bought a new engine. I bet if someone took their scoot to a shop for an opinion , the shop would have said , yep the crank is bad .

Well when I do get my BBK power 3 kit I am going to need allot of help seeing how I don't have allot of experience with scooters if you guys can take time with a noob I would really appreciate it Read this a hundred times or so( ebay.globaldc.com/scooterparts/borekits/100ccGY6/install/bbk.html ), memorize it basically, before your kit arrives. That's what I did when I had no knowledge at all. But take your time, ask us about things that don't make sense or google terms that you don't recognize and ask us if you need clarification. It may be kind of confusing with no prior mechanical knowledge. Learn how the engine works, read a little about 4 stroke engines: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-stroke_engineThat should give you some understanding about how the engine you will be working on functions and operates. I read it to understand how the engine works, and it helps a lot. It is not exactly a scooter engine but the process of how the engine operates is the same as our scooters.

I was a 52D in the US Army 30 years ago, power generator mechanic. I had not worked professionally on small engines in the 30 years since I got out of the Army. It took me 3 hours to do what should be a 1 hour job because I was unfamiliar with the engine, and took my time making sure I didn't make any mistakes (I still left a guide dowel off, had to pull the jug and re-seat the piston thanks to that oversight).
There are several good videos on how to install a BBK on a gy6 on YouTube. Watch a few of them, then watch the one that makes the most sense a couple more times. Keep your phone nearby when you start the change out, with the video you choose loaded up for reference, and you'll be fine.
The one piece of advice I'll give you without asking for it is to pull the engine. Depending on the scooter body style, you may or may not have enough room to do the swap while still mounted to the scooter, but pulling it will make things soooooo much easier!
Ask as many questions here as you like, everyone here is happy to help out!

Def pull the engine , especially if its your first time working on her . also you can leave the back wheel and exhaust atached to the engine on most of these scoots , just unmount the engine after disconnecting all of the electronics , fuel , and vacuum lines , and the throttle cable. You can pull the engine around which the wheel attached and set a block under the engine case.
