The thing thats sucks about this is, wile yes a typical 150cc motor puts out some serious pollutants, when you do the math @ 60+ MPG we are still way under the bar when compared to a 12-17mpg SUV. And wile yes you can haul way more in that SUV, statistics still show that % of all driving is done in a single occupancy method.

The last time I checked my Diesel car (not a "Clean" Diesel) gets over 50 mpg in the city using less fuel to commute than my 150cc Lance Vintage. It does not smoke even under full throttle acceleration nor during warm up. Most times you don't know its a Diesel except for the percolator sound the engine makes while idling. This is a circa 1980-1983 Diesel with a Diesel Kiki (Bosch) mechanical injector pump however it was properly setup to run cleanly on a flow bench. Too many Diesels run visibly smoky because the owners have been running them without proper maintenance. Even the very old ones can and need to be calibrated to run more cleanly however too many owners skimp on that part of their maintenance. They are adjustable very similar to a carburetor.

Yeah, the moonbats are turning our once-great country into a brain-dead, no-sense quagmire of stupidity. "The war on terror is over". "The healthcare crisis is fixed". "Everybody has a job". "We have achieved Camelot..." ...LOLOLOL!
Now, we can concentrate on the REAL problems, like cows passing gas... like getting people to stop smoking unhealthy tobacco, and start smoking healthy pot... like getting illegal aliens Social Security, drivers licenses and eventually the vote. And of course, shutting down scooters, weed-wackers and model-airplanes because of their itty-bitty "carbon footprints".
I live at the end of a main runway at D/FW Int'l. Airport. My shabby trailer-house, cars, scooter, cat, etc. wear a thick coat of black, burned Jet-fuel. If I blow my nose, I expel black jet-exhaust. If I turn on the AC, a black cloud of jet-exhaust belches out. The whole house has a greasy coat of jet-exhaust on every surface, even though I never open a window...
When a 747 lifts off over me in the front yard, a wet mist of black, burned Jet-A rains down, speckling and staining my clothes, but it DOES make good hair-styling gel...
Absolutely my fault for not making enough money to live closer to "fresh air" but I have little tolerance for those in government enacting laws which make stupidity a virtue... make evil good, make wrong right, and who hate the very fabric of our nation's history.
It's time our leaders stop attacking American values, and start attacking those who would murder us. It's time to put a "carbon footprint" on the sorry butts of those who are dragging the world's finest nation into a cesspool of mediocrity. Yup.
Without mentioning ANY particular faith, I'd respectfully suggest we all start praying... Without mentioning ANY particular political party, I'd respectfully suggest we all VOTE... and pray as to WHOM to vote for...
Just my opinion,

Very well said Leo. The voters need to wake up before our once fine country falls into total ruin.

Some of us are so old that we can see how much the performance and morale of this country changed from president to president from 1960 to present, even when the same party stayed in charge. We have had great presidents and duds from both parties. Don't let somebody convince you that voting isn't worth it.

Just my opinion, Leo (ex-military, God-fearing American) in Texas You are so right Leo!! That whole "environmentally friendly" vehicles thing is just rubbish, the less polluting vehicle is the one that has a longer lifespan, which is not the case with modern vehicles, they get obsolete or get broken down and wasted after just a few years of service. The most polluting thing we have to get sorted is Planned Obsolescence, the less stuff we consume, the less damage we cause to the environment, just by importing and exporting stuff we are polluting more than 1000's or even millions of cars. www.theguardian.com/environment/2009/apr/09/shipping-pollutionen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_impact_of_shippingAdd to that the pollution caused by extracting raw materials to build more disposable "Environmentally Friendly" vehicles and the pollution caused when they are disposed. Many thanks all you guyz and galz...
In my old age, I do tend to get a tad opinionated, but after nearly 70 years, being there and seeing how things are done all around this old world, in nations both socialist and free... I can honestly say I can tell when someone's pissing on my boots and telling me it's raining.
And, a great many of those in government (city, state AND federal) employers, businesses, etc. are doing EXACTLY that. Not good, but it's never too late to try to change... Lots of clear-thinking and thoughtful voting needed here...
This morning, our lovely 70-degree, sunny weather turned to 26 and sleet over black ice... CHEESH... It's supposed to remain in this dismal state until Sunday, so I'm DEFINITELY catching up on work OTHER than scooting...
Ride safe, stay warm!

Ford has the answer. Plastic bidegradable cars made from soya beans and agave fibers. Possibly use the alcohol from the processing for fuel.

Absolutely! Our pals out there who are younger than 50 probably never experienced the American dream of anybody willing to work being able to find work, and being able to support a family. And, at the same time, knowing pretty well what was RIGHT and what was WRONG... NOT what was RIGHT and what was LEFT.
Now about that soot... My old scooter wouldn't know how to run without inhaling through all that crud... and if my baloney sandwich didn't taste of kerosene, I'd think it had gone skunk... LOL!
Stay warm, ride safe my friend!

I remember my first mini-bike. It smoked so bad my parents wouldn't let me start it until I was out of the neighborhood, luckily we lived a block from the edge of town. None of my friends would ride behind me more than once, it usually meant a full hose down of them and their bikes afterwards, so they learned fast to stay ahead of me!
I grew up in the 70's, and have experienced the demise of the free spirit, the re-birth of the conservative, and the complete bastardization of the entire political process. The one thing I've learned through it all, human beings will moan and groan, and then get used to things, including giving up what they once held dearest. I'm sick and tired of the fear mongering used by everyone who claims they have the answers. While I don't like any of the political parties, I do long for the days when Reagan made us proud to be Americans again, and brave enough to take on the entire world if need be. I miss the land of the Free and the Brave!

You are not alone guys, is pretty much the same outside the US, presidents are just a "symbolic" representation of the plebes wishes to keep them submissive, this so called "freedom" it's just an illusion, I'm sick and tired as well of the political kind.

I think some may be presenting a slightly distorted picture of things. Before these regulations went into effect although they are not perfect the Merrimack river where I grew up in the 1950's was one of the 10 most polluted rivers in the world. Salmon stopped running, the carp die off in the dead of summer was getting to be unreal, air pollution was so bad that metal roof flashing's would rot through in a few years and the pine forests were dieing off. Since the stricter regulations went into effect the river has cleared up no longer being amongst the most polluted in the world, the massive carp die offs have stopped, salmon are running again along with the forests now rebounding. You don't get sick any longer from simply living in the valley where all of the exhaust settled and metal roofing materials now last longer. People also now survive more severe car accidents without any injuries at all compared to when I was a kid. In a mild collision you would almost always all end up in the front seat especially if you were riding in the back of a two door car as there were no seat belts or latches on the front seat backs to keep them upright and everyone safely in the seated positions.
Yes airports need to be better regulated and building permits should not be granted to put residential areas and jet airports in such close proximity.
Today in areas where they did not work diligently to get air pollution in check they have to now put up oxygen dispensing stations so you can catch your breath especially when walking or working outside and people have to wear filter masks when outdoors to prevent having black sinuses and lungs. The regulations and restrictions are a double edged sword so to speak however things would be much worse without them then they are now.
I can remember back over 50 years very clearly and can take off the rose colored glasses when looking at the past. People in general were more polite but the environmental issues that were escalating were a train wreck in progress however despite the progress already made more still needs to be done as things were only delayed and the train wreck is still in progress.
Yes not perfect but still a lot better then where we were headed and much of the rest of the world has already ended up.
