Hi, im a 29yo from western PA. I joined the forum to try and find either an electric or gas scooter to commute to and from work. It needs to handle 10 miles on a single charge. Doesnt need to go fast. 10-15 mph is plenty. I am not afraid of fabrication or electronics.

Also, probably 49cc max. My local laws state any bigger, and I would need a license for it.

howdy from the left coast and welcome to the forum. there are , as you may have gathered, some very erudite folks here and one might be with you shortly to discuss this. did you mean you are 10 miles from work or 10 miles round trip?

Only actually about 4.5 miles roundtrip. I want the safety margin for both max range and reduced battery capacity due to age. Obviously, both only apply to an electric device. Two stroke, only the max range. Noise is also a slight concern,as I leave for work at 345am. And I live in a residential neighborhood.

I've seen a few electrics on craigslist but I shied away because they are a few years old and I'm sure the batteries cost a fortune. I think they do 35mph or better. I wonder how expensive it would be to make your own lithium batteries? I remember watching a video of how they are made and it's not rocket science.

Batteries are easy for me. Its finding the proper charger, and controller to use them safely and correctly that's harder.
