is this plug and play? you simply replace the vacuum operated pump with one of these (hook up fuel line , hook up electricity, and it works?

Yep. And never again have problems starting, even if you run the scooter completely dry.
I have an "under floor" gas tank and mounted the pump down next to the tank. If your tank is higher then mount the pump anywhere - I just think it's best (though probably not absolutely necessary) to mount it at or below gas level.
And i used a relay so the line from my ignition isn't overworked, though again probably not necessary since the pump draws little power.

My scoot has an EGR system (not a PAIR). So.. if I remove the EGR stuff per this thread: removing the egrAnd replace the fuel petcock with an electric pump, will there only be ONE vacuum line from the manifold to the ACV Valve on the carb? It seems to be the indication looking at alleyoop's pic in reply #18. That sounds like something I want to do... getting rid of something RubeGoldberg-ish for a single vacuum line and a reliable fuel pump.

If your gas tank if ABOVE the level of the carb then you may not need a pump - gravity might do the trick. In that case just replace it with a 20th-century or 21st-century petcock so you can shut off the fuel supply.
If the tank is at the level of the carb, or below, then yes - this will replace the kluge vacuum pump. In that case you will have only one vacuum line (to the carb), unless (like me) your carb does not uses a vacuum line (then you will cap off the vacuum nipple and have ZERO lines).

The best fuel pump is no fuel pump, gravity never goes wrong; only possible if your tank is above your carb, like rcq said

Yep, Alley feels the same way. I'm not as worried about the reliability of an electric pump. Every car made in the last 20 years has one, and generally they are at least good for 10 or 15 years. if this little scoot lasts 5 I'll be impressed !
