Yeah, I realize that. That's why I am asking questions.
I just got a new kickstarter gear, so I will try to rule the battery out now since I used to be able to ride without a battery at all if I used my kickstarter. Not to repeat myself but I feel I never got an answer to this question earlier: How tight is too tight to tighten the lever to the gear of the kickstarter? I don't want to just strip the new one too.
Update: So I got it started, second kick, no battery in it. Not sure if this rules anything out but it started very easily. I still have backfiring but I feel that may go away once the new piston rings and head arrive. I am going to check one more time after the engine cools down on the position of the TDC just to make sure everything is on point, then I'm going to take it for a ride.

With the 100cc bbk you really need to be at TDC to get it started . A HP cdi with fixed advanced (preset) timing will stress all components more than more than a TDC . If you guessing on timing that is a big problem . vac and ring problems will not cause backfiring problems .

Using a regular black CDI atm that dmartin95 sent me to test my CDI. Could extra oil in the combustion chamber cause backfiring? Or tons of extra unburned fuel and oil in the muffler from not being able to start it so long?

an overly rich mix will cause backfiring . see where it is firing . John After riding the backfiring went away. Then the kickstarter broke for some reason idk how it all looks fine but it wont move at all when the gear that clutches the disc is in it. At the same time I noticed a gas leak from somewhere, it looks like the hose that comes out of the top of the tank was leaking gas somehow, but I have it all tied up. Both of these things happened right after gassing up. One thing after another >.> Since I have got the problems with it starting figured out I think I should make a different thread for the new issues.

I think the sprocket may have been slightly too large, it was having trouble moving while completely retracted. I decided to try using the sprocket from my old kickstarter and it fit nicely and gives a tiny bit of play so it doesn't get stuck trying to kick it.
