I'll have to go with Spike, too. Mom and Uncle both loved his songs, and went multiple times to his concerts.
(edit to add, that's not to say I don't enjoy Weird Al's songs. I like them both. So I needed a deciding factor, and Mom's it.)

I still have some 78 rpm Spike Jones records! Yup... Getting OLD! And, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Spike or one of his band play the fictitious musical instrument he called the "Bazooka"? Hmmm... How macho is naming our WWII tank-buster after a phony "Bassoon-like" musical instrument from your band? LOL!
Nobody made more entertaining and irreverent music than old Spike Jones with his kazoo, razzberry-blower, squeeze-horns, washboards, etc. Bet he rode a Harley or an Indian, too!

You got the story behind the Bazooka correct, you just got the musician wrong. It was Bob Burns who played a musical instrument called the Bazooka. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Burns_%28comedian%29#External_linksI really did not know any of this, I got curious and looked it up. |
