Scamping Report 2014 Fall
4 days 3 nights 780 miles
Best lay plans of mice and men.
This scamping rides will be remember for my ability to back track.
I don't think badly of any of the ride it is all part of the adventure.
Departed Sat 1:30 pm made it up to Mountain Spring Summit about 30 miles away.
The trailer was so poorly loaded that I was having trouble getting the scooter to stay on the stand.
Finally thought I had it, as I went back to work on the trailer the scoot turned over and
played dead. That when I learned that I did not put the gas cap on. As the gas rush
out, I saw my 2 new memory form cushions, custom sewn together lapping up the
gas as fast as it came out. But had to save the electronic first that where under the
seat.
Next turn to the trailer, I saw one of the wheel nuts came off and the tire almost off.
Ohh! That what they make cotter pin for.
After unloading, picking up and reloading I turn back home to correct things.
1st 60 mile back track.
After remounting water and gas cans to back of trailer, install cotter pins on both
wheel nut and adjusting load. Off and running again at 6:30 pm. Tented the
night at Pahrump RV park.
It was a cold night, was concerned I was not equiped right, stop at Walmart and
bought a new sleeping bag rated 10 - 30 degree. Loaded on rear of trailer.
As I was travel on Badwater Rd a car waved me over and ask if I lost a
sleeping bag? Yes, it seems so. They said it was about 12 miles back.
2nd 28 mile back track. No new sleeping bag.
Continue on to Badwater. Nice view but they expected me to walk there.
No thanks took picture and continue on too Furnace Creek.
After leaving Furnace Creek for 30 mile where I found myself at Death Valley
Junction, I had gone the wrong way on 190. Chooses 1) go back to Furnace Creek or
2) too back track to Shoshone. Choose Shoshone, nicer for tents.
3rd 120 mile back track. But nice stay.
This is were you learn the advantages of the Lance PCH 125 over the Chinesee 50.
I may be getting too old for the tent. Paid for two more night to leave the tent in Shoshone.
And headed out to Lone Pine and with plan night in a motel. Finally had phone service back
and reach my wife. She was not doing well, time to go home. Nice breakfast and tour
of Lone Pine.
Yes, I have been thru Death Valley. Twice on a horse with no name.
Did the 280 mile ride home Tuesday picking up my camping gear on the
way. Home Tuesday 9:00 pm.
Concludtion:
The only thing I missed about the 50cc is the scene of acompliments.
All else the 125 was great.
I took my new smart phone for picture, bad ideal. Fewer pictures (it a nusince to take
picture on a smart phone) Next time back to a camera.
I am be getting too old for the tent.
Scamping trip are to short, have yet to have one to long.
All and All had a good time.
