It's a bumpy road but I'm slowly getting there doing a rebuild on my engine installed a new stator/magneto. Going to start up and it has a hard time spinning ad now there's smoke coming from behind the flywheel. Looks like electrical smoke. Gonna pop her off and take another look now, anybody seen this before?

Ok so I got the magneto back off and looking at the wiring. Previously: The new connectors didn't fit my wiring on the scoot. So I cut the old connectors and just wired them to the new magneto. All the colors match except for one wire. i.imgur.com/BSDmEbH.jpgOn the scoot I have; green, yellow, white, RedBlack, and RedWhite. Off the magneto I have; green, yellow, white, RedBlack, and BlueWhite. I connected the BlueWhite to the RedWhite. The smoke that I saw earlier was definitely the green wire. It melted some insulation. i.imgur.com/rLlEFUu.jpgIt seems pretty obvious that I wired something wrong. Just not positive which.

On the scoot I have; green, yellow, white, RedBlack, and RedWhite. Off the magneto I have; green, yellow, white, RedBlack, and BlueWhite. I connected the BlueWhite to the RedWhite.
FROM THE STATOR: The RED&Black goes to the bottom of the 2 plug on the CDI that is the power to the CDI from the stator. The BLUE&WHITE go to the TOP LEFT on the 4 plug on the CDI that is the TRIGGER from the Pickup COIL on the Stator. So trace the wires back and see if they do indeed go to the CDI in those positions.
The Green make sure it is going to GROUND on the FRAME. The other wires go to most likely the R/R. Alleyoop

It's the ground that always gets me! Eventually I'll learn, I'm gonna follow the other wires to your specifications to make sure.

So I can get it running, it actually sounds pretty good. A lot quieter then it used to run. But it takes a while for it to catch. And it will continue to run. But when I try to start it again the turn gets slower and slower. Even though I just pulled the battery off the charger. I charge for about 30min til green and the same thing happens. Cranks first time, but won't after that.
Could be that my battery has gone bad?

If you put a BBK on in this "rebuild" you probably increased your compression ratio..This will drain your battery quicker. Add to that constantly spinning it over time and time again during your tests without running long enough for the stator to recharge your battery.
Then with your original problem, you might want to break out the volt meter wile it's running and make sure your charging your battery/

No big bore kit just a new stock cylinder head. As it turns out I didn't buy the little exhaust ring gasket with the new one so I pulled the old one out and used it but it's not in the best shape and the bolt that just sticks out the top of the cylinder was not tighten. Those two things and she's back up and running!!
