Well, I discovered I'd forgotten my scooter keys IN the scooter ignition all night. The battery is completely dead and not even the horn works! For the last three hours have been trying to find a car battery charger on a sunday late afternoon, then trying to charge the battery. What I'd like to know is IF I can hook up the scooter battery, and the car battery charger to the battery and "jumpstart" the scooter without damaging my scooter or battery (or both). There are like three motorcycle or scooter riders within two blocks whom I always see when walking around. Today I couldn't find a soul!! Am googling online to see if it's an feasible option.
How do I know the charger is even charging? Of 6 or 12 on the charger, I have it set to 6, and removed the battery fm the scoot, and connected the neg and clips to their respective poles. The charger amp meter is reading ZERO but it must be working because after 45 minutes charging the scooter battery, reconnecting the battery to scoot I had a feeble horn beep, BUT not enough to start the engine yet! Anyone know if I can jumpstart the scooter using the battery charger with the battery connected in the scoot?
Thanks!!

Your scoot battery is a 12volt battery so put it the charger on 12 . If the charger has a 2amp setting set it on that. Alleyoop

Yep, you can jump the scooter with a car battery not a problem. Alleyoop

thanks for the replies. i don't have a car to use to jumpstart. i want to know if i can use the car battery CHARGER hooked up to the battery within the scoot, to JUMPSTART the scooter!! thanks again, and going to the street to change the 6 to 12!!!
UPDATE: changed the 6 to 12 and the amp meter jumped to about 2!! now i guess that's a good reason it wasnt showing any output. i thought the scoot batteries were lower in volts due to the smaller size. Thanks again!!!
How long should it stay charging?

but it must be working because after 45 minutes charging the scooter battery, reconnecting the battery to scoot I had a feeble horn beep, BUT not enough to start the engine yet!! will probably take 4-5 hours on a charger and like alley said set it to 12 volts

Yea , check it in 4-5 hours it should be pretty well charged. Your charger will usually have a light that comes on green when full charged or if it has a meter it will move over to fully charged. Alleyoop

Thanks again!! In another 20mins or so will jog down to check it and if done, will rev her up and return the charger to the kind people who I dont even know, who loaned it to me at face value only. Y'know, the funny thing is when I am home in Spain for 3-4 mos of the year, the scoot revs up without a stutter. go figure!! Now if only I could find someone to do the other work, OR if I can find someplace with diagrams so I can TRY to do it (very limited basic tools). Thanks again!!

Thank you VERY much alleyoop ramblinman for your kind assistance! Car battery charger returned, scoot cranked up on the very first time as she always normally does when I don't forget the keys in the ignition! Now I know what to do in the future should this ever happen again!

When I'm doing carb adjustments or any other testing thats going to require a lot of starting over and over again, I've actually killed my battery doing this before. So now I'll hook a charger up set on 10 amps for the actual starting of the engine then remove it.

I'm curious why merely leaving the keys in the ignition drained the battery.

I think what he did was turn the motor off using the killswitch and left the key on the ON position which would draw juice to any gauges on the scoot. Alleyoop

trust me SylvreKat, I am wondering that same thing. BUT what else could be the cause since 3-4months of the yaear i am home to Spain and the scoot stays parked in a cold dark garage. each time i return i expect to have a lot of troubles starting it, but nope: first crank and it starts! i have NEVER left the key in the ignition before. this is the first time ever and the battery dies. so what else could be the problem and it's ridden at least 3 days out of the week for the last two months i've been back from Spain, averaging 3-4miles o/w each day. this may be a chinese scoot that NO garage will even want to see, but i have NEVER had any problems starting it.

Alleyoop i didnt notice the position of the key when i pulled it out, BUT i do use the killswitch always and that's prob what happened learned my lesson. probaby next month will pick up one of those battery tender junior. sounds like a great item to have handy, like a pair of jumper cables in the car trunk!!
