Hello and how is everyone? I have a Chinese MEIDU 150cc scooter that I picked up in 2011, and granted it's still running but it desperately needs a tune up, change of oil (transmission and engine), among other things. The speedometer and odometer died months after I got it after hitting a big pothole in downtown SF; I've tried everything to try and get it working again with no success. Greased the cable, dis- and reconnected the cable.... you get the idea. I have the part for the speedo hub to replace but am VERY limited on tools so I can't do the work aside from I have no idea what I'm doing. The motorcycle/scooter shops in the City refuse to work on chinese scoots at all, and I can understand why. I took the bike last year to one SF shop near the Mission area and they charged me three figures and did not do a thing after an hour!!! I also have the part to replace the flasher for the non-working turn signals, but cannot find that piece anywhere, and I have taken apart the front and back panels at the steering, and can't find the part to replace. The headlamp bulb burned out a week ago and bought a new bulb and replaced that myself with no problem. If only I knew where the items are, I could probably do it myself.... yea. ha!! If there's anyone in SF proper, I'd appreciate a hand and maybe you can make some money. I'd love to know how fast I am going and use my turn signals again, along with getting the scoot greased and running more efficiently. Thanks in advance, and hoping to find someone in SF! Saludos!!

thanks for the suggestion. yes I have! I am somewhat mechanically inclined, but you don't have to be to work on these scooters. You can get a really cheap set of socket wrenches at the auto parts store for about 10 dollars I think. A cheap set of end wrenches is another 5 dollars or so. That and two screwdrivers are most of what you need to work on a scooter like mine. A bigger wrench is needed if you want to remove the wheels or variator and clutch. You can find all kinds of tutorials on youtube. Just take things apart. When you see something broken, fix or replace it. They are simple machines. You can adjust your valves and clean your carb with minimal effort and skill. You can change your belt, check your variator rollers, and such, also with very little effort and skill. I rode around for a month with no body panels on mine so I could tinker around on it without having to keep taking them on and off. The people here will assist you if you need advice or help and there are plenty of other forums online. I've had mine since June and I have already taken the motor out, pulled the head and cylinders off, replaced the gaskets, etc. Believe me I am NOT a mechanic. I HATE working on cars, but these scooters are simple and well designed to be easy to work on. You could even pay a friend to do the work or help you if you need to, but trust me, you don't have to rely on a mechanic to work on a scooter unless you just hate to get dirty. I have the gy6 150cc engine and I punch that in on ebay and find tons of parts that fit my scooter.

thank you scooter for the encouragement. trust me i have removed most of the side panels enough times but like you i am not mechanically-inclined, but just dont have the time also. most of my days are just sitting and organizing digital image files - not something i really doing but a necessary evil for digital photography these days; it's the downside of being a digital-photographer! i have so many off-sets of tools everywhere but nowhere do i have the correct tools i need. yes, i have been searching online for manuals, data and how-to's for working on the scoot including here, and i cannot find any that covers my (chinese) scoot. thanks again

I am STILL looking for anyone who has tools and the space required to work on a scooter. in a few months I'll have this 150cc chinese scooter three years and it desperately needs a tune up, oil change, spark plug, etc. The speed/odometer still doesn't work, nor do the turn signals. if there is ANYONE in the San Francisco area who can work on a chinese scoot and just able to do these actions listed above, please contact me! I am not always on here, so just email me fototaker at gmail thanks and stay safe riding!!!

Hi fototakersf I don't know if you fixed your scooter yet or not, but I'm willing to take a look, I'm in the bay area and I'm a retired motorcycle mechanic, and I ride a scooter now. I've worked on my own scooter and friends scooter as well ,I has lots of tools, the only thing is I'm in the east bay (San Lorenzo)if you can transport your scooter here I'll take a look.but I won't travel to S.F. I like to work in my shop with my tools.so if you still need help, I'm here, let me know. later
