I've seen a lot of frames, motors, and wheels for sale that it would seem to be easy enough to put together a Frankenstein D-I-Y ride. The concept seems simple enough, but how hard do you think to would be to get something like this titled and registered?

Honestly, the answer to that is - besides skill - it depends on your state DMV's restrictions and regulations when it comes to registering and titling. Some states it's a breeze to get what might be deemed as a "custom" motorcycle registered, others not so much.

It's pretty common to see motorcycle frames for sale that have a valid title. Get a titled frame if you want to ride it on the street. When buying the frame alone, I wouldn't feel good about only a certificate of origin. I would want the title.

Yes it has been pretty popular over the years. I think that the best one was someone putting a 1000cc four cylinder motorcycle engine in a Vespa. Another popular one was people modifying the little Honda Ruckus scooter by putting in larger engine units. But yeah, you want to find a titled and registered scooter you can use to good effect for your modifications. But if you never plan on making it road legal, then anything goes.
