Hi all, I just purchased a new 2012 Puma valentine 150cc.
She looks awesome, I love the Vespa look.. I get compliments no matter where I go.
I was able to get this at a very good price, but I had to do my own PDI and with Puma going out of business this summer it had no warranty. That said I did not have any major issues knock on wood and I am loving her, she’s been a good hobby as I been spending many long nights with her… lol
Out of the box she would do about 55MPH on flat roads; however this thing revs very very low, and hills and take off are horrible.
I put on her 1300 miles before some early symptoms got very serious and she would no longer start.
* Issue #1 - from the get go, she would not start right up. I would have to crank her a few times before she would start.
after 1300 miles she had enough and would not start at all. It was perfect timing since she was due for motor and tranny oil changes. While I was at it I also installed a uni filter, rejected the crab and adjusted the valves.
That fixed the issue and she starts at the 1st or 2nd crank
Stock 105 jet and a 32 pilot jet, after installing the uni filter I had to go up to 130 before she would run good.
This mods did not add any significant gain in power, it was disappointing but this could be due to not having installed a fre flow exhaust.
Issues #2 the engine seems to burn some oil, is this normal? about 1oz every 100 miles.
Now I have about 1900 miles and while I was driving all of the sudden I am hearing an exhaust leak.
Issue# 3
I check and i find a pipe by the valve cover just hanging there and melting a plastic canister near there. I looked online and its the PAIR system, so I just put a bolt into the pipe and plugged it for now until I can figure out how to remove the whole thing.
I also just installed a hoca race variator kit that comes with 12 Grams roller ($40), what a difference that made wow. Top speed is about the same I just get their a whole lot quicker, and I gained 8MPH on some steep hills. I now stay close to 40MPH on steep hills and I am 225lb. Also to my surprise the scooter came stock with the Gates Power link belt!! It does seem to have better quality parts compare to some other Chinese scoots.
I am thinking on adding an exhaust next but my retro scooter does not have many options available.
anyway I am sure you guys will hear more from me as I will need help to remove the PAIR system as it does not look as simple as some videos I seen. It seems my PAIR system also connects to my gas tank as well. I also can’t find anywhere where the pipe by the variator was connected to. I am guessing the pipe just flew off or something.
Looking forward in hearing back from you all.

I called Puma directly to ask some questions and they told me they were going out of business. They are now all sold out and I believe still unloading parts. I got my scooter in June 2014 and its a 2012 model.
Its sad to see them shut down, I like them.

I have the Znen ZN250T-D (called the Apollo by Puma) they were ALWAYS SUPER HELPFUL in getting parts or getting the information I needed to solve a problem. (at one point taking parts that I need off a showroom model to send to me.) It's a pitiful state of affairs when a company that good goes under.

Burning oil is not normal , and your right about not having the free flow exhaust , you won't get the full gains out of the free flow air filter and the up jet with out the exhaust . Also the 130 main is very big . I'm surprised you don't have any bogging . It would be better to get a bigger carb and then rejet to a 120 or so . The bigger carb will pull more fuel then he stock carb with the same size jet . I'd get a 28mm carb to use with the stock bore and stock head .

geh3333maybe I just have a very slow oil leak, I always find some spots of oil by the cap that I can't seem to eliminate. Do you think I had to use such a large jet due to my pilot being too small? my pilot is 32, and most come with a 34 or 35 stock. i was surprise that I had to use a 130 jet as well, but anything smaller at wot it would pull back, less throttle and it would go faster. Symptoms of running lean. thanks
