After much thought and working on a plugin I decided to try the old Bones/Karma system we once had at Scootdawg.
Under your avatar in what is called your mini profile you'll see Give = give member a bone Take = take a bone from member Bones = (number of bones you have/don't have) I started everyone with 5 Bone Ranking = status by the number of bones you get
You CANNOT change your own bone count and when giving/taking a bone from a member there is a 5 minute period before you can give or take another bone.
I hope this is going to be a nice way of showing members how much you like what they say or do here and not a way to try to discredit members who don't deserve it.
Also when you hit your profile you now have a tab called Bones and can see who has gave or took a bone and look at your list of activity also.

So its a just like a rep or thx system? or is it different? the more bones you have means you have been thanked by many users?

Update, I just changed Fetch to Throw, maybe that's not as confusing.

Hm, I'm not too sure that's gonna be much clearer, JR. I noticed the change from likes, but I wasn't sure which meant what. Did throw mean you threw a bone to the poster, or threw it away from the poster? Did retrieve mean you took one or gave it for the Dawg (i.e. here's a bone to retrieve)? I went searching for this thread 'cause I know you well enough that I knew there'd be some thread explaining the new change. But sadly, not everyone will go looking. (talking the old Dawgpound, remember when Doug gave me something like 10,000 bones 'cause folks were whining about them? That was funny!) >'Kat

And I just found out I don't have permission to give bones.
(raises my hand)
Teacher? May I have permission to throw a Dawg a bone, please?

Folks it's simple again read the first post. Ok Kate I liked your post so I'm going to put my cursor/hand on Throw and click on it, as soon as I do your Bones which was 5 will instantly go to 6, I threw you a bone THROW means give a bone to a member.
Now if I wanted to I could put my hand over Retrieve and click on it and your bone count would instantly be one less from what it was retrieve means TAKE a bone.
Now it is set so that you can only do this every 5 minutes AND you CANNOT do anything to your own bones one way or another, if you try to give or take away a bone from yourself a pop up will come up and tell you that you cannot do this.
So give it a try, go to any member you want and THROW or RETRIEVE a BONE from them. it's easy.

Ahh.... Now I figured it out. I threw a bone and you went from six bones to seven. Bones are good. Unless they are chicken bones and you have one in your gullet.

Thank you, Teacher. You're right, it works now. I just threw an old Dawg a bone. As for understanding it, yes, after reading your first post here it makes perfect sense. But until I came looking and found this thread, I was confuzzled which would do what. Would throw hurt? Or retrieve? Isn't retrieving usually a good thing in the dog world? But how about the Dawg world? So like I said, I knew you'd have a thread to explain what's what, and looked around for it. But I'm still doubtful that everyone will come looking for the explanation. 'Cause you know, sometimes you CAN'T teach an old Dawg new tricks ...at least not without a whole lot of treats! >'Kat

I think I'll just change it to a simpler thing as in Give or Take, was just trying to throw a new twist into it. Thanks for the Bone Kate!

I did like the dog-themed options. But I also have too much experience with people in general. Working with people (esp any type of retail) does not typically show the best of humanity, sadly. My current fave--he called me over because he needed a stapler, which was about a foot away from him. Had he bothered to look at the supplies cubby he'd have seen it. Instead, he had to call me over from across the store, for me to show him it was right there beside him. Sad. Next fave--please show me how to run my copies myself, while I proceed to call someone on my phone and ignore you.
Sorry, stepping off the soapbox now. Just wanted to point out why I had doubts some folks would bother to figure out the cute retrieve/toss.
Most of all, thanks JR for continuing to work on making The Ride an even better forum than ever! You deserve those 10,000 bones!
