Anyone recognize this device? Is it OK to simply plug the hose off and remove it as part of the vacuum line cleanup process?
Connects via a large diameter hose to a chrome pipe that bolts to the head ---- other side is a large (short) hose to a filter or check valve, the other side of which is open to the air.
(oops - can't figure out how to insert the photo of the thing ..... advice on how to do so would be welcome),.

Yep, that's it.
What's it do?
(and how do you attach a photo if need be)?

From that valve that you circled does a hose or chrome pipe connect to the side of the VALVE COVER? Alleyoop

Yes.
First a large diameter hose (3/8" ?), which connects to a chrome pipe, which bolts (2 bolts) onto the head next to the valve cover.

One more thing.
You can see in the photo my kludge intake manifold. But it does not have any nipples for hoses "pre-carb", and the stock air filter includes what I think is a crankcase vent (large hose) that goes into a chamber in the front of the air filter, then to the pre-carb manifold.
Do I need to get my muffler guy to weld a nipple onto my kludge .... or should I do something else with the "crank vent" (?) hose?
I DID buy a scooterdgs PVC valve, but do not know what to do with it.

No leave your air intake alone, all you need to do is take that hose coming off the top of the VALVE COVER(crankcase vent hose) and put a fuel filter on the end of it and zip tie it higher than the valve cover, it just has to VENT.
So if you want to take the PAIR system off get a plate to cover the hole or make your own and take all that stuff off, make sure you block the VACUUM at it's ORIGIN. Alleyoop

Thanks, Oop.
After your earlier msg i ordered the pre-fab blank-off plate. Thought of making one up, but not worth the effort. Will strip the PAIR stuff out once the plate arrives.
What do I do with the Scoot-Dgs PVC valve I bought? Paperweight?
