I was wondering what the difference is between grooved vs standard drum brakes. I read that the grooved brakes give better performance when wet, but I'm wondering if they are less effective than the standard brakes under normal conditions.
Should I mix and match? Grooved on one wheel, standard on the other?

Thanks for the response, geh3333 ! My brakes don't have much bite & I'm afraid that they might not be able to stop me safely (I'm gripping them with full force and I'm unable to lock them up). I ordered new brake shoes for one of my wheels to see if it fixes the problem. The grooved ones sound neat, since I live in an area with a lot of rainfall... But I decided to go with the standard ones. If this works, I'll buy the grooved brakes for my other wheel and see how it goes... If not, I guess I've got other problems . This is for my 1983 Suzuki FA50 (shown in my signature), which has less than 1,000 miles on it. That's not a lot of use, but I was thinking the old brakes might have gotten less effective with age. I'm not sure if they do that or not... This is my first vehicle, so I'm learning as I go.
