I just wanted to give a REVIEW of MY 2012 TaoTao CY-50A scooter 2012 model, that I purchased New August 2012 for $700.00 with 1km on the odometer. I have to say that I have been very happy with this scooter since day one. I have had to replace a couple of items over the 2 years I have owned it, but nothing major. Some of the items were by choice.
List of items replaced due to failure:
1) Ignition switch broke after 1yr. $35.00
2) Battery failed after 1 1/2yrs. $20.00
3) Turn signal left front after 1 3/4yrs. $12.00
4) Rear tire worn after 1 3/4yrs = 5500km or 3600miles $25.00
5) Oil changed @ 500 miles, 7x = $35.00
Total = $ 127.00
This scooter has always started quickly, had decent take-off and a top speed of 40-47 MPH not KM since I got it. Riding for awhile I noticed a fair drop in speed on inclines...down to 28-30 on average but not to major to me, top speed for a 50cc are usually listed as 35mph tops.
I had the need for speed and etc. so I had a few "add on" parts.
1) Iridium plug $10.00
2) Performance variator w/ new weights $25.00
3) Gates Belt $20.00
Total = $55.00
After these few upgrades and a little tweeking...42-47-50mph, inclines 30-33mph. with quicker take-off.
I did need to purchase a few "replacement" parts
1) Front fender. Original had a crack on one side where attaches = $15.00
2) Mirrors...3x @15.00
Total = $60.00
With that all being said...I have put in $ 242.00 in this scooter in 2years and I am still HAPPY AS He!! with it.
