...until I remember that if I drive my 4 cylinder Mazda as an alternative I only get 18 mpg locally. Seriously? My 3.8L V6 Taurus is getting about that mileage. As for my scoot, he's been anywhere from 50s to 70s mpg. I figure if the odo isn't accurate, at least it's consistently not accurate. And perfect mileage figures don't really matter that much to me. Although I wouldn't mind seeing triples, even false ones! Maybe then Mom would feel better about "that thing". >'Kat

Remember that many fuel tanks are oddly shaped wedges that are like inverted pyramids or sculpted around frames, wheels and other parts so the top half of the tank may contain 3/4 of the total volume of the fuel. The gauge is a float that shows level (how many inches/centimeters high the fuel is in the tank as a fractional value) just as if you put a ruler inside the tank to measure how high the fuel was and not volume.
