Your missing my point. If I were to turn the idle up to the point where it starts it would have a very high idle (well over 1800RPM). Throttling it up is needed to start but once it fires I can release the throttle and it idles fine. The other thing I noticed when I was adjusting the fuel mix is that if I turn the screw out from its present point it becomes air starved (bogs) when I give it any throttle so I think it is where it needs to be. Overall I think this 24mm is just not right for running this thing though. I'm probably going to switch back to a smaller carb like a 20 and jet it at #35 for pilot and # or # for the main. For now though at least I have it running so I can get some break in time on it so I'm happy with that.

As an FYI, I also removed the spacer between the carb and the head. Not sure why that makes a difference but I saw Millsc had done it on his so I figured I'd give it a try.

The reason I said to idle it up is because in the VIDEO it was running at to low of an rpm for you to correctly adjust the Fuel Ratio Mixture, the motor was struggling to keep running. With the idle a little higher the motor would not struggle so much to to keep running Then you could adjust FUEL RATIO MIXTURE so it would be a happy camper you would then lower the IDLE to where it runs the smoothest, but you do it your own way and hope you don't ruin the motor. alleyoop I think we were coming across from 2 different points. My intent was trying to get it into a state that would enable my daughter to start it right up with no throttling needed. To do that it seems to require me giving it a little more gas/air then what it has in the current idle position and if I were to turn the idle screw in enough to get it to that point it would be set way too high. As it currently stands even with a slight turn of the idle screw it seems to "jump" into a very high idle. After reading a bit more I'm actually thinking its too lean because when I did have it in a very high idle state last night and turned the mix screw all the way in it didn't cut out. I'll make another video after work and show you what I mean.

joecruise Its been a b!tch to get it into a state where its running and I'm not comfortable yet with the stability of the engine to actually ride it. With that said I've seen reports of hitting over 55.

Ok well gotta love that different websites say 2 different things. 1 says if the mix screw is all the way in and doesn't stall (remains idle) you're too lean and another says too rich. !? I'm going to pull the plug. That should tell me definitively I hope.

The verdict is in. Caked with soot on a new plug. That's with running it at idle maybe 6x for about 5 minutes each run.

Well I got the 20mm carb today and swapped it in. Has a 91 main and not sure what the pilot is because guy that sold it to me didn't have the spec on it. It worked perfectly though with proper stall when screw was turned all the way in and great idle at 2.5 out. I'm guessing pilot is below the 35 size that was in the big carb. She now starts up with ease on every push of electric start button without needing any throttling. Took her for the first spin and hit 30 with ease
