I've been running gates powerlink Kevlar belts "842x20x30" for the past 2.5 yrs . With a new belt I start with 10 gram weights which allows me to hit my top speed around 7500 rpms " on a straight stretch " , but after about 300- 500 miles my rpms begin to rise to where I hit top mph near 8000 rpms , so I have to counter by upping the weights to 10.5grams . This continues every 300 to 500 miles until I'm near 2000 miles on the belt and around 12 to 13 gram weights . After I reach 13 gram weights I buy a new belt . I never had a gates break on me yet but I loose some takeoff after going up so high on the weights. I ve always said my scoot runns very strong for a 58.5 bbk , and I do run 2000 main and clutch springs , so there is a lot of tension on the cvt / belt , but I've never heard anyone else have a belt wear issue like this . I tried a cheap Kevlar belt I got from the guy I bought the scoot from and it pretty much disintegrated in 300 miles , I found a couple 2 inch peices and a few strands in the clutch and that's all that was left in the case. I'm sure there was some on the road but I couldn't find any . Anyway give me your thoughts ? I'm at 10 grams now and need to up to 10.5 , it's been about 500 miles since I installed the new belt . I have about 12 used gates belts with around 2000 miles or less on them .
