I have a TaoTao 50 and I need to know how the Electric choke works. I am new to this little thing. Does it come on all by itself or is there a switch. What shuts it off. How do I test it. Thanks for any info.

It's called an enricher instead of a choke because rather than choke off the air, it has an open fuel port that enriches the mix till cut off.
The component is a wax plug that reacts to heat by expanding. When an electric current is run through the enricher, it heats the wax, which expands, and pushes a pin out to close off a fuel port hole. It should extend about 3/8" in 2-5 minutes, after which it is effectively "off".
To test, remove the enricher from your carb by unscrewing the two screws holding the C clamp on it. Unhook the wiring harness, then run wire jumpers from it to your battery. If the pin doesn't extend out within 5 minutes, it is bad.

If you are confused about what i have said just do what jerry said and report back
