Hopefully there will be a civil suite to get reimbursed the final expenses. If the person was living at home, their parents in many states will also be held financially responsible for this. Get an at tourney as most reputable firms will not charge in an accident case unless they win you compensation. The better firms will not charge unless the compensation is substantial enough to cover your losses and the interest on them by a good enough amount.
Your family is dealing with two losses right now and at least you do have a good chance of whittling that down to just one.
Condolences on your loss. Don't let Mom and the family be financially victimized too.
