There sure seem to be a lot of problems with Chinese . . Are they possibly all made by the same manufacturer? I have bought 2 scooters made by the same Chinese manufacturer and neither one had any serious problems . Possibly mine will pick up problems later with miles on them ,but on the initial arrival and PDI .problems are minimal . Verne If you haven't had any serious problems by now, you will NEVER have any. and that's a promise, and I'm practicing on running for president, as, we now elect any clown into office. All But, seriously folks, Yea, happens, didn't Chevy just recall 175,000 cars (defective axle shaft) in the Cruze? Only diff is, there ain't no Chinese recalls. Reg maint, a good PDI, or post PDI, reasonable riding, and it should last a lifetime. We chose to spend less money and accept any consequence, so, quit beatching, fix the problem, and ride, safe Dave

True, ....and at least the parts don't have a 500% markup on top of everything else

I have been at this a very long time (21 years in business at the same location and have worked on just about every type of scooter/motorcycle out there) and have watched as the Chinese have made great strides in their product. If you think you have problems now (most of which can be found with anything mechanical) take a look at the archieves in the old scoot dawg forum ( scootdawg.proboards.com/ ) and see what issues they had years ago that are not present today. The same is true about the Japanese machines, those of us that are old enough remember, know all the issues that they had and as they grew the product became better. One other thing to keep in mind, the only scooter you can buy in a crate and have delivered to your door is a Chinese Scooter. You, the customer, become responsible to do a proper inspection, assemble and do the PDI. If you think that dealers that sell other machines, Yamaha, Honda, Harley, ect don't see the same problems when they get their new machines in the crate, you are sadly mistaken. The only difference is that the consumer does not see it first hand because the selling dealer has to take care of the issues before it is sold. In short, receiving a Chinese Scooter in a crate to your door you become your own dealer. If properly set up from day one and maintained, a Chinese scooter will give you many years/miles of enjoyment and service. Unlike other machines, when it does break or needs a part, you won't have to get a bank loan to fix it. Jim (The old guy @ 60 years young)

PDI was suppose to be a part of the dealers service before the shipped it to me. they said they also change the oil. so maybe i was ignorant that they would check those basic things. so when i started finding things wrong i immediately change oil, if they didnt actually do pdi then they probably did not change oil. so part of my mistake was trusting the dealer
so i may of went 70 km with the crappy fish oil or what ever the chinese put in there, hope that did not damage anything

RapidJim nailed it. Chinese scooters are for the 'do it yourself owner' - can save you a TON of money, but you have to be willing to do the necessary work. The good news is that it's all cheap, and there is no more inexpensive way to have a viable mode of transportation. The only problem is that the companies selling Chinese scooters are not doing a good enough job of educating customers as to what exactly they are getting. We are making a concerted effort to be the most transparent company out there (still a working in progress, but check out our FAQ for example, where we specifically discuss the PDI issue in the first paragraph).

That's all true but I see nothing wrong with people talking about the problems they're having. Some of the issues could be downright dangerous so I would personally rather read about someone finding an issue instead of being surprised by it while on the road.

OK so i found the dealer I bought from did do PDI, but their PDI includes lights, checking gauges and other electronics, check battery, do an oil change and start the bike to see if it runs. they did not take the scooter out of the crate just make sure its good to ship. i think they did start it b/c some of the plastic sheeting was melted by the exhaust.
so ya I write it up to a learning experience for me
i found one more thing, the rear fender was missing 2 of the 3 bolts
