Red hot exhaust also sounds like you over packed the muffler with steel wool..and the back pressure is causing heat build up..

Thaks for the heads up on the internet link. I sent them my info a couple of days ago.....nothig yet. As for the hot exhaust...could be too much stuff in there. Im going to rejet, make a new header and see how that waorks...then i can and will address the guts

Here's another possibility for what could cause a muffler to glow red hot: Late model scooters have a catalytic converter element in the muffler and the carb is jetted as lean as possible for EPA requirements. If you rejet for best performance ( with or without filter & muffler mods. ) there will be more unburned hydrocarbons going through the catalyst which will make it get hotter. Years ago I got a couple plug wire swapped during an engine rebuild on a car, it started and ran with a bad miss... I ran it for a minute or two to see if it was just the assembly oil that had fouled a plug or two and just needed a minute to clear up. ( wasn't the oil...) The unburned gas from the two mis-wired plugs caused the converter to start glowing red hot after a minute or so.

Well well well.
I played a bit with the carb and got actual motorcycle exhaust packing and it is so So SO
Much better. Good sound. Not to loud. Nice rumble. Idled good. After some time the exhaust was still cool to thr touch....warm but no burn... Ran doen the road, my son and i and we pulled this huge mountain i live on....it was hot but no burning. Melting. Nothing bad at all.
Done. Thanks to you all for helping It is on Ebay right now.
