Been looking into the Lance and Tomos 150 models thinking I could get one for about 2 grand out the door but that isn't happening. With dealer fees and shipping the costs go up to mid 2ks. At that price the Likei is the scooter I'm looking at. Can get one for 3k out the door. It's FI, disc brakes both wheels, trunk plus 163cc. Those that say these can be had for 2k don't live near here cuzz that ain't happening..........anyways that's the scoot I'm leaning towards unless a screaming deal comes up on a 250 or so.

Go to the Tomos USA website and look up dealers in your state. Even delivered and assembled by a mechanic, a Nitro-150 will be less than $2,500.

I've seen the Like priced around $2600 out the door. Shipping is a whole other can of worms though...

It's really not that hard to negotiate. I walked into my scooter dealership last year with $950 in hand, and I walked out with a scooter listed for $1299 (common price across most dealers), and they threw in a Keihin carb installed at no extra charge. I told him how much I had to spend, he thought about it a few minutes and gave me 6 different scooters to choose from. It helps that there are three scooter dealers here in Vegas that are having a virtual war with each other (each accusing the other of bad craigslists posts etc).

That's one of the issues here, only 2 Kymco dealers with different owners in the whole state here.

Show up at one of them with some cash. We used to deliver bikes free to places much further than would seem reasonable when I worked at a dealership. Go see them and see what your options are. Its all theoretical until you're standing in the dealership. Right now most of them are hurting pretty bad and they will jump through hoops to make a sale.

2wheelfun,
I must admit I'm a little prejudiced toward the Kymco, especially the "Like" 200. With dual-disk brakes, fuel-injection and vintage Lambretta cosmetics it's just darn-near irresistible. I recently got a well-used '07 Kymco 250 Grandvista at a local dealer. After a LOT of diligent searching and test-riding every conceivable type of scooter, it finally boiled down to either a new Like 200 (actually the Like is a 160 or so) or, a used Grandvista. My budget was $2,500 MAX...
I have bad arthritis and absolutely need a flat-floor, step-through frame... I really loved the Like, but I need to be able to cruise 70mph, and for THAT, a 250 or larger is needed. If you can live with a top speed of 65mph or maybe a tad less, the Like is definitely a great choice.
It IS the middle of WINTER... and dealers are willing to deal... I think you should be able to get a new Like 200 for around $2,500 or even a little less, out the door, tax, title, prep, etc. if you negotiate with the store. On the LIKE 200, I'd ABSOLUTELY negotiate wide whitewalls in... LOLOLOL!!! It's just BEGGING for them!
Before "pulling the trigger" on the purchase, please do test ride different scoots in your price range. I found that if I could use a scooter with a "semi-hump" floor... Honda, Burgman, etc. I could find a number of good, used 250 to 650cc models in the $2,500 range. I even found a Kymco "Exciting" 500 to absolutely DIE for in the $2,200 range. I just can't climb over the hump.
Whatever you end up with, I'm sure you can get a good ride within your budget. OOOHHH, I almost forgot! I also came across several CHOICE Vespa fuel-injected 150's for $2,000 to $2,500 and they will nudge 70mph! And, are certainly the Ferrari of scooters... Keep looking, hone your bargaining skills, and you'll get what you want...
Enjoy it!
