I have an ashtray that I want to put on the front porch. It's about 3 feet tall. The problem is, it's pretty light and on the cheaper side. I need to add extra weight at the bottom or else it's going to get knocked over. I'll try and look for my camera and post a pic. Until then, the bottom is basically hollow on the inside--- it's like an upside down average sized funnel at the bottom(the whole ashtray is shaped like an hourglass). I need to figure out an easy way to add weight there. Any ideas guys/gals? Oh, the bottom is open-ended and not capped off.

without seeing it, i'd say you need to add a base. wood, styrofoam, sheet metal, plastic, whatever you have that may work then you can fill it will sand, rocks or water. that's my 2 cents. edit: is it transparent? if not you could secure something heavy with tape or glue near the base on the inside. that would be quick and easy. post a pic, i'll give you many ideas.

if it is not transparent.
Put a good amount of plaster of paris in it and then turn it right side up on a piece of plastic or cardboard to let it cure, the plaster should stick to it and add weight, you could even add some lead weights if you want it heavier.

I like the ideas from Doug and Alleyoop... If the plaster or cement isn't enough weight, stick a barbell weight into the bottom while the stuff's still wet...

If it's the same we put at our parks from homedepot we just pour sand inside it and fill the bottom. Btw I'd recommend it so you don't melt the thing also
