Would the kickstart lever, prevent the engine from normal operation?
2008 Chinese knockoff - purchased new. Replaced the engine with a "new" one in April 2013, replaced the "new" engine with a real new engine in June 2013. The battery started dying about 2 years ago. I more or less killed it off perm. attempting to start it prior to engine 2. Would no longer hold a charge. Considering the kickstart worked, didn't really give a . About two months ago, the engine started getting difficult to start with the kickstart. I thought it was due to the cold weather. Bike is always outside with no garage. About two weeks ago, it more or less became impossible to start with the kick start. Wasn't sure if it was in my head or real at the time. But it seemed like the kick start would move freely for the first 4/5 of the crank, then around the last inch or two it would get met with an insane amount of resistance. That if I applied enough force would push through, or my foot would slide off and give me a boo boo, or even worse not slide, and not push through. I was riding to work one morning, after spending about 10 minutes kick starting it. And the dang thing died on me on the way, wouldn't restart. I pushed it to work. Did my daily chores, let the bike rest all day, and surprisingly it started right up after like only 2 minutes of kicking. Started riding it home, and it just suddenly died on me on the same freaking road, but this time at the bottom of the hill. After having to push it up the hill and home. I decided it was time to replace the battery. Placed the new one in it. It would now attempt to start, without a soar foot. After reading some forum posts regarding suddenly dying on it's own. (no spitting or sputtering) I decided to replace the cdi. Happen to have a box of new spare parts, courtesy of being on engine 3 this year. After replacing the CDI, It fired up on the first try. It was like a wet dream. Decided to celebrate by visiting my bank and pot supplier. On the way to the bank, it started sputtering, flooding after about a mile. As long as I let up on the gas, it would stay running, and slowly work it's way back to speed. After procuring some of my money from the bank. The damn thing wouldn't start. Had to push it home with a pocketful of money and NO weed. Yesterday was a horrible day for me.
Started just fine this morning. Now I get to figure out my flooding prob. Not really asking about that, as I'm auto-dictated in shade-tree mechanics. Flooding issue I'll figure out. Not as quick as majority of you, but I will. My question is more about the kickstart lever/gears. While I was trying to start it at the bank, I noticed that the last inch of resistance from my lever is now completely gone. I can now move it back and forth with my hand. I know it's still connected somehow, as it helps to move it with the electric start to get it to go on the first crank When the weather warms up a bit, I'll drop the engine and check the valve stem clearance (flooding)and boot. (compression) I don't believe compression is an issue. I don't have a gauge for it, but air blows out of the exhaust manifold on cranking and idling, and I've learned my lesson about the oil. (No muffler, for a few years now.) I prefer it this way, I'm no longer cut off by the ignorant public while riding anymore. And it's safer for you, as the last person that cut me off, I followed to the next red light, dragged his queer rear from his car, and made him watch as I destroyed his car in front of him.
So assuming there is a problem with my kickstart gear/lever somewhere. Is there a longterm side effect to not fixing this issue? Possible outcomes? I.E. I've learned not checking your oil for a few years means you'll be buying a new engine. I've also learned that purchasing a "new" engine from ebay means a rebuilt engine with rtv sealant in place of gaskets.
