You may recall my wife and I moved back to Missouri from Quincy, IL. around 2 weeks ago. Well, we could not get everything in one load, so we left my 250cc scooter behind. Well, we went and got it and other stuff. My scooter was sitting in my son's backyard, covering with a tarp, and covered in snow and ice. The ground was very slick. So I uncovered the scooter and started shoveling snow and ice. I turned the scooter around on the concrete porch- slick. Pushed it a little way in the yard. I got to shoveling and noticed I would hit leaves from the trees. So I had the idea, that I would put leaves around the scooter tires on the ground and push it. Well, the scooter weighs 330 lbs and on snow is heavier, pushing uphill makes more difficult, and because you have to not slip or scooter will fall. So I decided to try and start it up. Now I thought the weather being winter like, well it might not start. Had been as low as 7 degrees at night and this was morning at 26 degrees. Had no trickle charger and anyway to get a jump. So I turned it over.. it cranked but had been sitting for 3 weeks. A little slow cranking, but it cranked. I believe in giving the battery a break and so not to drain all the juice out of the battery. I would crank a few seconds, than stop and give a little throttle to be sure it was getting gasoline( 3 weeks of sitting is long time, for as cold as it was). Well, it eventually started for about 3 seconds and died. I continued and it started again for 6 seconds. I then gave no more throttle just cranked it and it started up and kept running. I waited for it to warm up, while I made the trail of tree leaves up the hill to the top. Now warmed up, I rode up the hill as if on pavement. Even rode about 15 ft in the regular snow and if not had gently braked, well I think the scooter would have kept going fine. But I stopped to make sure I had leaves under my path. I got through the backyard, rode carefully through a alley( some ice and snow was still on it). My son's road infront of his home, is still covered with snow and ice. Mean 3 inches of solid ice. It was taken slow, but I got through it and on the trailer it went. It was a thrill but scarey too. Got back to Missouri( Belle) and our snow all melted off. We had 9 inches of snow, but the past 3 days have been in the 40's and 50's. It is gone. Seen people out riding their motorcycles in Belle.

Just proves how close a shave you can get with just a scooter. (at least you got it in the trailer and home safely)

In your own post you said the scooter finally started without giving it any throttle.
The next time you try to start your scooter when it is cold out, keep your hand off the throttle. It is designed to start with your hand off the throttle at any temperature.
Keep your hand off the throttle when you start your scooter. When you start your scooter keep your hand off the throttle. Keep your hand off the throttle when it is hot. Keep your hand off the throttle when it is cold. Keep your hand off the throttle when it is warm. Keep your hand off the throttle when it is cool. Keep your hand off the throttle when it is wet. Keep your hand off the throttle when it is dry. Keep your hand off the throttle when it is being started. Keep your hand off the throttle when it is being shut off. Keep your hand off the throttle unless you are mounted and ready to roll.
