While trying to adjust my valves (by myself for the first time, not mechanically inclined) the intake nut broke off, and it is not at the right clearance... what can i do, or can i even do anything myself about this problem? I live in Austin TX and have called multiple shops, but none so far will work on my 07 JCL 250cc...

i bought a replacement nut from chinesepartswholesale.com when i first got my used scooter. previous owner apparently lost it. i'm amazed that that nut could break. could you post some pics? perhaps someone could help you better if we are seeing what you are seeing. at the very least it will fulfill my curiosity of how that nut could break.

oh i see what happened. i would order a replacement. the last thing you want is that part coming loose and dropping in the engine. this is the one i ordered for my 50cc: www.chinesepartswholesale.com/product_info.php?products_id=64520i have no idea if that is the size you need for your engine. you'll have to research it or get some info from someone else. if it is the right size. i have an extra adjustment screw i could send you if you still have the nut.

I do still have the nut, but I will do some research to see if they are the same size, just from the pictures it looks like the same thing to me, though im pretty uneducated about scooters so far.

Don't run the motor until you get a replacement screw. It will most likely change clearance very quickly, like by the time you get to the bottom of your driveway. Since it is not cinched down you are also battering the threads in the rocker arm. If you think adjusting valves is a pain, wait until you have to replace the rocker arm.
Root through the metric allen bolts with your nut at Ace Hardware, Lowes, or wherever and buy one with enough thread that is as long as or a little longer than the original adjusting screw.

I ended up ordering a replacement bolt/nut, after foolishly running my scooter and taking it for a test drive, which went far from well. Looks like I'll be taking it to someone with experience, because I just cannot work on it without screwing something up.
