I haven't been hanging around here all that long, so please forgive my ignorance if this question seems inappropriate.
It seems that there used to one recently deceased, but very active forum that was a tremendous repository of knowledge.
Now there are 3 or 4 very similar new forums. Each with a limited amount of activity. And since there isn't enough traffic happening on any one of them, I'm seeing the same names appear on all of them. Many of the requests for assistance are cross-posted on at least two.
Wouldn't it be simpler and more efficient to have just one place for everyone to go? Or are there too many lingering personality conflicts for this to be feasible?

Without going into the politics of the original Scootdawg forum which are difficult enough to explain even if you were there, I would have to say your last sentence could sum it up well enough.

The original Scootdawg Imploded and went off in two directions, and the rhetoric got VERY nasty for awhile. (Some things are better left in the past.)

First of all the newest of these forums is this one and it has been said many times why so no need to go into that.
Yes there are some people who are on all of them but the point I think you're missing is while people may belong to 3 or 4 different forums each forum has so to speak it's own personality. I'll speak about this one and IMO it's a blend of the old faithful SD members and a few totally new ones but I can say that I know there are members here that are not members of the other forums you may be talking about and I can say that personally about my forum that I have. Why? lots of reasons and whatever they are it's fine, different strokes for different folks.
Other forums were formed for one of the reasons you mentioned of personality conflicts but hey that's the way it is in life in general. Think about it in about everything we do people sometimes go to or do things with other people just because they like one place or other people better, again different strokes for different folks.
On the knowledge thing IMO that also is different on different forums, I'll speak for myself even though as being one who has helped make other forums and one who has helped make this forum along with Doug I can say that this also a lot of times goes with the personality of the forum itself. This forum which is the new place for SD has people that go way back when Chinese scooters were still a lot of mystery and knowledge put on the old forum was a lot of experiences that were learned on a fix it and learn as you go basis.
Other forums have picked up on that principal also but have added other things as well and even though someone may go ask the same question on more than one forum they may get the answer to their problem on only one? Why? maybe at the time someone was online at the time they posted and just beat someone say on this forum to it? Sometimes they get a answer that may be wrong in one place and get the correct one in another?
That's another reason IMO to have other choices or places to go because again there are people here that aren't at other forums and vise versa. Myself on my forum it's not as orientated to the more everyday chat like here and a lot of my members mainly ask for scooter related problems and my non scooter section isn't as busy, again just the way the people on my forum are, no big deal. I can also say that other forums sometimes have members who seem to like to have conversations about how disgruntled they are with another forum and want to talk about others who got tired of their causing problems and for me they can just stay there and be disgruntled.
I will also say that this forum is less than a year old and the traffic to this forum is tremendous and growing for several reasons and I know this from helping build it and monitoring it's activity compared to others even my own and at the current pace I truly believe it'll reach the heights of what the old forum SD did. Difference from then to now is this place has people here who care and want to see it prosper and will not abandon it.
In the future as Doug and I have time we are going to be working toward bringing some of the best SD tech help things to here along with soon I hope to be putting more and more things in this tech section especially manuals and other how to's and even a video section. My time has been consumed with the forum software change which has slowed me on these things.

Oh, well. I guess it's just too much to hope for that everyone can just get along.
Contentious forums tend to be a self cleaning ovens anyway. Those that come just to complain soon find themselves talking to the wind...
Keep up the good work JR.

howdy, as for me, i don't frequent any other forum so i feel as though these are my friends here. they may not feel the same. i appreciate the things jr and doug are doing here. i do see the trend for personality issues deviding the group and wish it were not so but i see that everywhere from national politics to religion. that said, i recommend letting the good things prosper.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

I believe some are still missing my point. It seems that some think the "only" reason other forums were formed is because members at one time from SD could not get along. While this is the case with some to a degree it's not the only reason. The other forums that did branch out from SD are not by any means the only scooter forums out there, they are mainly the ones that are hosted by the software provider Proboards. There are some very large forums out there that know of SD yet have never joined and are happy where they are.
Shalomdawg, you made a viable point, some people for whatever reason only want to frequent one forum for lots of reasons besides just the getting along with all. Funny thing also is I know people who can get along at one place and are not welcome at another.
But I also know how some feel about a certain place, you join, you post and make friends and before you know it a forum can be like home. A lot of people who are here and also at other places cut their teeth so to speak at SD, myself included but sometimes things go south so to speak and then the place becomes a memory.

I think JR explained it pretty much as long as you can. My contribution to this topic would be this:
