The desert sands of Palm Springs. (judging from the trees in your avatar pic you look like somewhere in the Northern part of Cali.)

yeah, I'm in Sacramento. Too far to get together for a ride. The avatar pic, is of a Moto Brovo Hornet I rebuilt for a buddy. He took it on the freeway and dropped a valve, causing all sorts of nice things like holes in pistons and broken valves.. That was the shake down run after I rebuilt it.

LoL! I took my 127cc on the freeway, tailgating a truck I did 60MPH, for hours, but not after a sprocket change. I prefer to ride 35-40 MPH on that bike.
I also took my TaoTao EVO150 with CVT on the freeway. Again, tailgating a truck at 65MPH peak, reaching to 70MPH, for at least 30 minutes, and no problemo.
I did get off the freeway about 1 hour in the ride, as I wanted to take it a bit easier on the bike; and took it down to 45-55MPH roads.

The Savage is the Big Single, 652cc and weighs only 50 pounds more than the 250's. If you don't like cruisers, you can make it into a Café: (and reduce the weight to about 330 pounds.)

If you are considering a motorcycle, a Thumper, look for a Suzuki Savage / S40 -- first sold in 1986 and is still available. A hair lighter than the Blast, a lot smoother, faster off the line, and the Savage Forum is very helpful. An issue: anyone tall will NOT be comfortable on a Savage! My mother has one, it fits her perfectly. She's 4'11" tall. I can barely ride it...it's worse than the little 250 Nighthawk I rode for training. Note: if you see an LS650 or a Boulevard 650, that's a Savage.

He took a 150cc on the freeway? (was he new to scootering?) I am "new" to scooters since a year ago, but I have been riding for nearly a half century. I take my 150.5cc Vespa on the freeways and Interstates, but I know how to drive slow vehicles. Going from L.A. to Sequoia Nat. Mon. and back I got 70+ mpg doing 60 mph.

First Mount: Second Mount: Savage fitted my 5'9" 30" inseam just fine.

I do have a smaller inseam 30" so the savage would fit fairly well. It's one of the reason's I'm looking at the Buell. Here is my current problem. Putting my leg over on a lot of these bikes, gives me a charley horse. I got on a duel sport in the show room, and got a charlie horse, and that's really not good when you are trying to get on a bike. Same thing happened with a Ninja I was working on. Tried to get on it, to take it off the center stand and instant charlie horse. It wasn't a problem on the hornet. The savage would probably be good in this respect, so will the buell. I tore a calf muscle and it just doesn't like stretching like that. I'm sure if I started stretching that muscle more, the condition would get better, I just didn't know it was as bad as it is, until I tried getting on some of these bikes. Weight of the bike doesn't seem to hurt it much, it's just getting the leg over is what is killing me. I've ridden a 500 beverly (heavy bike) and a '04 500 Scarabeo (even heavier) and it wasn't a problem. Dry weight on both of those bike is like 500+ lbs. The Scarabeo is a huge bike but dayam is it beautiful and I loved riding it every minute. It's just not good value for money and I think I would be better served with the motor cycle. Since I work on my buddies bikes, I get to ride them from time to time... It's one of the perks...
