Sorry to hear of your mishap but glad you faired as well as you did. I can certainly relate.....Back in 1969 I hit a 10 pt buck on the NY Thruway doing 70+ on my 1964 BMW R60. Somehow I managed to keep the bike upright till I got into the grass median strip, then I lost it. Ended up with broken left leg, but I think I was really lucky. Totaled the BMW and the State Troopers wouldn't even let me keep the venison....Go figure!

Oh man, I glad you are ok... Just get back out there and ride tho... I could see how this could ruin it for someone.
I'm glad you are not hurt too bad tho. Hopefully you'll find another wing that nice.... This whole think makes me want to shop for better gear (I need to)....

Oh scootn' hon', I'm so sorry about that. But also so very VERY glad only your foot got hurt and nothing worse for you. Like others wrote, scooter parts can be replaced far easier than your parts. And not to be too heartless because I do totally love dogs, but far better that dog died than you.
Heal fast, scootn'.

Thanks guys it was the left foot but it should be good in a week or so. This is not my first wreck so no worries I will be back on 2 wheels soon. Kat I was sorry the dog had to die I wish I could have missed him. It was quick and he didn't suffer at least.
Looks like I will likely be shopping for a new bike though based on the conversation with Progressive. I really like the wing and I may be able to find another we'll see...

Glad to know you're (basically) ok. Let's face it at 70 miles per your options are limited to a fraction of a second, so your judgment proved sound. (While you heal up you can start to look for your next ride.) This is why you wear the gear ALL the time! Who'd have thought Fido would come out of nowhere?

I hit a 10 pointer in West Virginia ( luckily I was in a pickup at the time) West Virginia is a little different than NY. When somebody hits a deer it's cut, wrapped, and in the freezer faster than you can order a pizza!

Wow, that's scary! I feel so sorry for you, and the dog! I'm just glad to hear you are mostly OK. Insurance will take care of the money side, you just take care of yourself!

howdy, prayers for all the best fer ya scootnwin. did that with a brand new 750 honda in 1972 i think it was. last saw the dog in the mirror moving but not going anywhere.
i put a new tire on my scoot today for 180 bucks. it had a screw throught the center of the tread. i think i could have put a patch on the inside but no-one will do it and i can't do the labor of taking it off and replacing , so i had a new one put on and kept the old to patch and use later.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya ken

Just thought I would give the total end result because someone asked in another thread. The bike was "totaled" and I was paid $700 bucks for it after the deductible and the buy back fee. I got it completely fixed though she is a bit scarred she is in decent shape and looks good from 10 paces or so. I replaced all my gear and have been happily riding for awhile. I really love this bike and I'm happy it all got back together ok. I'm all better too. Progressive insurance was a joy to work with and all in all the bike was only down for about 10 days. Be safe out there guys and spend sometime thinking about what you might do if this happens to you. Mental crash exercises make the real thing far less damaging...

That's good news but best of all the news that you are OK and still riding along! Now get a scooter to go with that thing!

I went with Progressive but got replacement coverage. If the bike is totalled they pay for a new equivalent bike minus the deductible. The other choice is agreed cash value if I can't get full replacement coverage. I pay for X$ coverage if the bike get wrecked or stolen and then there is no adjustment they just pay out the face value of the agreed cash value policy. On the scooter it only costs me $100 per year so its not unbearable.
Glad it worked out in a way that you could live with on all fronts.
I have had 2 close calls now myself and its not fun. Had a load of construction debris dumped in front of me covering the entire lane a year or so ago and went airborn at 45 mph but was able to land it then a month ago was hit by a Buick Rainier at 30 or so mph and was able to ride it out as I was pushed across the lane getting only about $53 damage to the muffler shield.
Ride safe and never skip wearing your gear.
