Darn it all, these roads in this town suck! My exhaust is taking a beating on them and thus the stud snapped off the exhaust. I've ordered new studs, gasket and bolts. Now I'm riding around with something that sounds like a mid 80's chevette with no muffler! Anyway, I should have the parts by the weekend or beginning of the week. Aside from that some older lady pulled out right in front of me today causing me to flat spot my rear tire. I don't think she saw me at first but she did hear my loud exhaust and stopped just enough for me to swerve around the nose of her car. A good testimony for the saying "Loud pipes are a safety feature".

i am NOT a mech
BUt i dont think you should ride it like that.
it needs some back pressure from the muffler.
wait till a REAL mech chimes in

Terrilee is right, it is not good to run with a broken stud. It can burn the exhaust valve pretty quick. My exhaust broke about 3 inches from the flange. I was about 5 miles from home. By the time i got it home it was already damaged.

Well, I'm not driving it continuously and I've already got the parts on order. The good news is that the exhaust isn't totally off, it's just short 1 of the studs not both. I will be careful though, the last thing I need is a ticket for noise.

I have the same problem. Where did you order your parts from? Is your exhaust pipe mounted straight up and if so, how are you going to get at it? I know I'm not draining fluids and turning the scoot on it's side.

wow dude 71 ?!?!?!? i was gonna say just lay on your back it aint that hard, but at 71, wow i hope i can still scoot.
i made a lift for my scoot. like 2 ft high, all wood. just walk it up on. put on center stand. it was easy for me to make and im worse at wood working then i am at repairing scoots.
that way its a couple ft in the air

That lift sounds like a good idea for me seeing as I tend to do my own work. As for the exhaust parts, I ordered from www.partsforscooters.com. If you have a standard GY6 type motor it should have the exhaust mounts directly below the engine, straight up and down. As long as you don't have a modded cylinder head, the stock size is 6mm. They come as a kit and be sure to pick the right one, it'll run you $14.99 plus shipping (usually another $5).

Thanks terrilee. Getting down is not a problem, getting back up takes longer. I think I'll try that lift idea. I'm better at wood work than scooter work, but I'm learning. It's great fun but no scooter clubs down here. Everyone rides Harleys . I'll ,post how it turns out.

Thanks terrilee. Getting down is not a problem, getting back up takes longer. Or... disconnect a few wires and bolts and just drop the whole engine out.

In my case there's enough of the stud sticking out that I can use vice grips and turn it out. In some cases though you might need a grab-it tool and a drill. In other cases you may end up replacing the head.

Dadzilla, it took me a week and on line tutorials to rebuild my carb. If you ask me to drop my engine, you might as well have me do open heart surgery. I'll find a way........

In some cases you can remove the stud, and replace it with a bolt.

I'd like to replace them with either but where I can safety wire them to prevent loosening and loss. Has anyone seen these around?
