I have been fighting a starter issue for 6 months and decided I would figure it out once and for all.
I would hit the start button and it would either fire right up or I would have to hold it down until it caught (always sounded like a low battery). If not I had to kickstart it. Put my spare starter on and started doing the same thing. I took my battery and had it load tested Friday and it checked out okay. While I had the battery out I grabbed one the starters, grounded the case to the neg terminal on the battery and touched the starter cable to the battery. Nothing!
Took the starter apart and quess what fell out? The negative side brush had come loose from the terminal. Soldered it back in good, put the starter back together (tricky to get brushes to clear the armature). Did the same test with the repaired started and zing! Pulled the other starter off my scoot and took it apart to find the same issue. Soldered that the brush in that one back on and it passed the test.
Was nice this morning to hit the starter and have it fire right up. Thought I would pass this along.

Thanks for posting the links. Way I figure it, I saved myself $60+ though and learned something in the process.

You're most welcome. (I hope you have no further starter trouble)
