I love China bikes! Scoots, motorcycles, I love them all! But I just found a new vehicle, Elio, All american, 3 wheels (reverse trike), caged (with a roof), storage space, 84MPG, 900cc; top speed over 100mph, AC, radio, 3x disc brakes, for $6,8k with possibility of an additional discount! Since Fl always has rain, and is too hot for rain clothes, I think I'd be interested in riding this thing! My Honda VT750 always gives me shoulder aches, so I think this is a good solution to travel cheap; best for the longer rides; besides, my VT750 does 60MPG max, so this thing is actually even better! www.eliomotors.com

If you ever rode a reverse trike, which is hugely popular in Miami, then you'd not find this bad looking at all!
And the fact that it goes highway.
For Florida that means, getting everywhere you want, dry, register it as a motorcycle meaning no insurance necessary (though I think I'll take the $240/yr PIP), that's about 1/10th of a car's, and almost triple the gas mileage (of a regular car).
The savings will be gigantic!
Replace my car with this: Initial cost car: $20k Tax + Tag: $2500 Dealer fee: $500 ================ $23.000
Annual cost gas: $1500 (For 10k miles/yr) Insurance: ~$2000 ===================== $3500
Initial cost Elio: $6800, Tax + Tag: $950 Delivery fee: ~$750 ================== ~$8500
Gas price annual: $500 Annual insurance: $250 =================== $750
Annual savings: $2700
Not including maintenance; or tag renewal sticker Estimated tire wear: lifetime of the vehicle (unlike a car that needs tires every ~30k miles).

Damn, $2000 insurance premium on a 20K car? I have a 19K car and my full coverage with $250 deduct collision is $620 a year.

In Miami, PIP only is ~$80-100/month, Full coverage can be anywhere between $160-220 per month! Usually with discount if you pay 6 months in full (or $1000-1200 for full coverage, and $500-700 for the basic PIP coverage); however prices this month are ridiculously low compared to last year (this month I paid $720, compared to last year $1000+ for 6 months...

Love those reverse trikes. Remember wanting one in the late 1970's . Even tried to build one from a Honda 750 and a chevette in the mid 1980's lol but never could get it to track right. Looks great I would say buy it and have a happy ride

to me doesn't look half bad and for florida your right would be alot safer and cheaper with all the rain. i wonder who makes the motor. 30k for tires is a little low maybe if you went as cheap as possible with chinese brand tires but mostly tires for street use have a 50k life and if you go for the top brands you can get 80k and 100k tires now price depending on your connections and skill at searching for a deal of course lol

to me doesn't look half bad and for florida your right would be alot safer and cheaper with all the rain. How is it safer? How do we know it handles well in the rain? Why is a motorcycle unsafe in the rain? I have ridden many times in the rain, the beginning of snow storms etc. I'm still alive. I would prefer to be able to jump out of harms way rather than be "safely" enclosed in a little fiberglass box of death waiting patiently for the 150 lb motor to land on my lap. Good tires on the bike and gear on your body make rain a breeze on a bike. Last I checked they don't cancel motorcycle races for rain, they just put tires like you are already running on slow down a bit and race anyway...

No one says it's unsafe to ride in the rain; just unpleasant. on the other hand, if you do get into an accident, the Elio offers rollcage, and triple airbag protection. to me doesn't look half bad and for florida your right would be alot safer and cheaper with all the rain. i wonder who makes the motor. 30k for tires is a little low maybe if you went as cheap as possible with chinese brand tires but mostly tires for street use have a 50k life and if you go for the top brands you can get 80k and 100k tires now price depending on your connections and skill at searching for a deal of course lol We all know that the 'rated' mileage never equals the real mileage. I have an almost brand new Chevy cruze, tires rated 50K miles. I'm not even at 20k miles and they'll need to be replaced. Even the more the older the car gets (due to alignment issues).

Nope.
He says the elio is safer than a motorcycle, and it is, because of the rollcage and triple airbag protection. He's not saying riding with a motorcycle is unsafe.
