So, these have 10mm bolts, my stock mirrors use 8mm. I realized this was a possibility, will see if anyone local carries the adaptors, if not I'll have to wait for an online order.
Took your advice prodigit, hooked them up to the battery for a test. Sound is loud and decent for the price. The issue is this particular brand/model gives up too much mirror area to the speakers. I haven't mounted them, but am pretty sure I won't be keeping them mounted long. I'll withhold final judgement till I take a test ride with them, but for now, they just don't feel safe. Too bad, but I'm out less than $20 if I don't end up using them much. Here's a half minute video of my pre-installation test playing FM radio nice and loud:

Not a bad sound at all for the price.

I rode over to Cycle Gear and picked up the 10mm to 8mm adaptor bolts today. Installed the rearview mirror speakers and went for a test ride. The FM radio is useless when the engine is on, way too much interference, and no antennae wire to reroute to attempt to improve it. The MP3 player works great! Good volume, enough to hear while riding without blaring my music to the entire world.
My worries about the speakers taking up too much of the mirror surface turned out to be no problem. The area with the speakers only shows my arms when riding anyway, and the positioning of these mirrors actually gives me a better view than my stock mirrors did. I also picked up a pair of small round semi-spherical stick-on mirrors, and placed them on the speakers themselves to give me a bit more peace of mind.
You might notice in this short video I took that with the adaptor bolts, the cover pieces don't completely cover everything, but a couple of pieces of electric tape, and it looks great (sorry, did electric tape after taking this video).
Bottom line, I'm happy with these for the price (less than $18 total including shipping). Decent sound and the mirrors are still safe to use.

Great job and sounds good. Maybe I missed it, but what are you using for an MP3 player and Amp?

Great job and sounds good. Maybe I missed it, but what are you using for an MP3 player and Amp? Thanks! The MP3 player is built into the keychain dongle that you plug into the mini usb cable. It has a small cover on the back you remove and insert an sdcard (up to 4gb by the manual, but I've tested a 32gb and it worked, though I don't know if it would find all the music or just the first 4gb worth). The amp(s) are built into the mirrors (they are heavy).

If you have regular speakers, and need an amp, on amazon or ebay search for 'tripath amp'. Those amps are 12V, and have an output between 2x5W and 2x18W (depending on which model you take), and are pretty loud and excellent sounding amps! If you choose one of those amps, and the sound is bad, it's more than likely the speakers, not the amp! Believe it or not, but the best sounding, and loudest amps for the $$, are actually the cheaper amps, like the Lepai LP2020A+ The others have more expensive materials, but are not necessarily better sounding, and often cost upto 3-4x the price of the Lepai. So far the Lepai works best with me!

""As for the HUD on the windshield, you can spend a couple grand and have a heads up display in your helmet, but is that really necessary?"" Sure, without it how can you use your FLIR. Not to mention confirm a good missile lock?
