Are the rocker arms upside down? A brand new head should not have this issue. Something is wrong. Can you take pics?

The problem is the rocker arm assembly is for a head with long valves, and the head you have has short valves. You need to get the right rocker arm assembly. The same thing happened to me.I found out they make two different valve lengths, and two different rosker assemblies.

Ok good to know. . . what measurement do I have now and what measurement do I need? I normally buy for scrappydogs but I don't think they have rocker arm assemblies... where can I find Quality ones at?

Thats where I got mine. Same issue as you, and together, we figured that out,and they sent me the right one. You need the assembly for the short vaalve head, You can put the locking nut under the arm, and it will run fine. But it's an s.o.b. to gap

I paid nothing for it. It was part of a deal that fell through, so I got the bbk for free as part of the settlement Long story, but scrappy's was very good about it.
