Cars always passing you means your not keeping up with traffic and is very dangerous. You do not have to speed but keep up with the slower traffic on the right lane. If your scoot cannot go those speed limits your riding on the wrong street and or get a bigger scoot that can attain the speeds you travel on. Alleyoop

Had a brilliant one this morning on the way home from nights:
The road is mostly a 60 limit, with blocks of 30/40 through villages. The first village out I was behind a cager driving "erratically" shall we say: not indicating, slowing down, speeding up for no reason, swerving pointlessly. So I took the opportunity to blast past them when they slowed again and sat in front of them. I didn't filter through traffic, I just overtook them and stayed put inline.
We got out onto the 60 section and I stuck to my guns in the "centre of road wheel rut" (right hand wheel rut-in UK), until I came up behind a lorry that reduced my speed to about 50. I had to hang back a bit as the lorry was shedding muck and making road spray, so the cager started tail gaiting me, before trying to overtake, straddled the centre line, then realised there was on coming traffic and practically ran me off the road pulling back in behind the lorry.
At the next village there was a set of traffic lights at some road works, so I took the opportunity to get past the cager and the lorry and settle into the queue.
It was another 20 miles before the cager caught up with me and turned off another exit at a roundabout. There's nothing better than riding home from a night shift during the morning rush hour, sharing the roads with all the cagers who didn't get out of bed early enough, while I've literally got ALL DAY to get home! Lol
Stick to your position on the road guys, it's more fun than you'd believe!

I've noticed on a larger scoot, say a 250 vs a 125 they don't bother me as much as they used to. I guess the bigger bike is a little too big for them to "Mess" with.

In NC, the law for Mopeds(less than 50cc) is that you stay to the right as safely as possible and cars can pass went legal( single dash or passing lanes) if the scoot is not traveling at posted speed limit. Distance for passing is two feet. If you can kick the car, they are too close. If they hit you with a mirror, it is considered an accident, so if they drive off, they just fled the scene. Of course, if you don't wreck and end up in the hospital, the likelihood of catching such driver is slim without witness accounts and a police report.

That's another good reason to always have a camera with you and on, scoot.

Alleyoop While I agree that it increases risk, there is no choice around here; % of the local roads are 55mph. Moreover, based on your theory, no cyclists should ride!

Don get me started!!! Lol. I was involved with an online discussion with my local police once about road safety and cyclists. One idiot cager posted something along the lines of, "I always give cyclists plenty of space, but they still kick my car and try and knock my mirrors off." The police posted back, "Oh well, we'll always try and investigate crimes against property such as this." Even after an hour of me trying to explain, they still didn't understand that if you're so close they can kick your car, YOU'RE TOO BLOODY CLOSE. Idiot cagers. Ian Wow, that's dense... I'm a little disappointed with what the police had to say about that. Obviously the driver is being a danger to others on the road . It sounds like I'm going to have to be very alert once I get my scooter. While on my bicycle, I've seen cars move into the next lane as they pass me (as if they were passing another car). It seemed a little extreme to me, considering I always ride well on the side of the road... This topic really makes me appreciate that level of courtesy.

It sounds like I'm going to have to be very alert once I get my scooter. . Keep your head on a swivel, always use your mirrors as well as looking over your shoulder, and always use your indicators. You get used to it, and becomes second nature. If you've spent plenty of time on push bikes in traffic (especially in cities) it won't take long to feel relatively comfortable. I found myself doing it in the car the other day: the Mrs was giving me funny looks! Lol Ian

That's not realistic for me, Alleyoop. I got my 49cc and won't be getting another anytime soon. So I'll take my risks along with the bike riders and pedestrians (hey, I go faster than them and have illuminating lights; I should fare ok since none of them have ever died in this county).
