Hello all! I'm new to the forum and im hoping someone can help me! I am installing this chinese 49cc 4 stroke engine on a custom scooter and I cant for the life of me get spark to my plug, im using an ignition tester on a good ground. I have all custom wiring ran, just the basics for the cdi and coil. Im not really sure on the engine model maybe someone can look at my attached photos and tell me. Im getting a signal from the pickup, and the coil is getting a signal as well, all my grounds are good, the cdi box is new, Im certain the wiring is spot on as well. I tested the coils i have and they all tested good! My actual question is is can someone tell me what to test, with my multimeter and what way to do it to find what my problem is? I really want to ride this thing and it seems so simple!!! All i want is the engine to run the simplest way possible. I dont need anything else! I attached a photo of the wiring diagram I used maybe its not right? I have 5 wires that come out of the scoots stator is posted a picture maybe someone can tell me exactly were they need to go? THANKS GUYS i know this is tedious but i really wanna scoot! Attachments:

[replyingto=alleyoop]alleyoop[/replyingto]alleyoop: I have a main engine ground going from one of the mounting ears on the case of the starter to the frame. Its in the same place it was before i removed it from the other scooter!

I would switch it to one of the bolts on the valve cover to be sure I am getting a good ground to the motor. Also are you sure the TWO TOP WIRES on the CDI are not switched. You can test the trigger SLOT when cranking it should read .05acv when it fires. The power wire on the CDI should be getting anywhere from 40-100acv. Alleyoop

I changed my ground just now and no help. I checked the two top wires and they are indeed going to the right place. Now whenever I try to get a signal from the trigger wire does anything else need to be hooked up to get this reading? The easiest way ive found is do disconnect the cdi and put my probe in the connector. And is there any wires that go into the sator that or suppost to have power from the battery feeding into them? The only power wire I have in the whole system hooks right into the power supply for the cdi, I have the red wire on the sator dissconnected

It doest seem im getting anything from the trigger wire. But again no wires are hooked up to it besides the ground of the stator. when i go do DC power the meter shows a small amount of activity, but AC i get nothing

No, no wires from the battery go to the Stator, wires from the stator and pick up coil go to the CDI and the Regulator/Rectifier to charge your battery and feed juice for your lighting. Did you test the Power Wire going to the Bottom of the TWO plug on the CDI and see if it is getting juice?
Also is that CDI an AC CDI or a DC CDI. I notice you do not have the killwire connected which if it was DC would not have one. So IF it is a DC CDI then the power wire is feed from the KEY SWITCH when you turn it on. Alleyoop

Im only getting 27.1 ac volts at the cdi. which is the batterys ac voltage as well. I have a feeling im suppose to have the power wire for the cdi coming out of the stator instead of just hooked up to my battery... I feel like im making progress!!!! (*

[replyingto=alleyoop]alleyoop[/replyingto]It does have a kill switch wire i just removed it. Its an ac cdi for sure. And looking at it I only have 1 wire from the sator wired in. Which is the trigger wire. Im using direct battery voltage for the cdi. Is that my problem?

I know some electrical but I am not a Guru on the Electrical I can do most of anything on them but maybe the RED wire from the stator is the one that powers the CDI. A lot of them show the red wire powering the CDI. But if not maybe PM JR he is the Electrical Guru no one is better than he is. He can re-wire an entire scoot. He even knows what color the wires usually are. I am a Carb, Motor, Tranny and CVT guy.
