My T3 has a rubber mat that covers this area but the BMS just has a lid. Im wondering if i should lay a bead of silicone around the edge to keep rain out? Attachments:

[replyingto=redroush00]redroush00[/replyingto]How about fabricating a thin neoprene gasket. You can get the material at any auto parts store for a couple of bucks and you won't have the messy silicone to fool with any time you access the battery?

I would put something there, maybe even cover the whole floor with clear vinyl. It's going to fill up with dirt and grit real fast.Maybe you can glue some heavy monofilament line around the lid to seal off the crevice.or some black plastic or rubber thats 1/8 to1/4" bigger all the way around the cover. You could even stuff some black yarn into the area around the cover. just peel it out and replace it when you open the battery box.

Being in Florida it will get sand in the cracks fast. Plus you know how much rain we have had this year. Making some type of gasket would be a must.

Ive seen that tubular rubber line that they use to secure screen in screen doors. That might work. I think that laying down a bead of clear silicone in that groove could work since i really dont have to access that compartment very often anyway. If i did I would just peel it away and lay down a new seal. When I get it ill have to look at it and see how tight it is.

Maybe go to the World of Walls, and get a cheap, rubber floor-mat for a car, cut to fit, and use the metal plates/screw to anchor it in place?

Are there drain holes down in there? Some scoots are made to let water in and drain out some areas, sometimes with pretty elaborate gutter systems. If not, seal it up!

Im mostly concerned about terminal corrosion.

If it's made to drain, water should just go around the sides and would never touch the battery.

vaseline works good too,and not as messy.Or you could get some dielectric compound and coat them. it's also very good in all the plugs and connectors, preventsmoisture and corrosion and maintains excellent contact.
