While riding down to the water earlier today( going only about 15-20MPH THANK GOD),I happened to "goose it" atiny bit. I felt a shimmy, almost like the rear wheel slid on ice. I thought to myself what the h--l was that? I did a u turn to see if it was anything in the road. Nothing. So I pulled over, and put it on the kickstand and got off.I grabbed the back of the bike and shook it back and forth. Imagine my surprise when the Whole engine assembly was loose. I got down and looked.to find the right motor mount bolt 3/4 of the way out! Apparently the nut just fell off. I have had the motor out a few times, and always use my impact gun to put it back. I took it home, removed both bolts, and put lockwashers behind them. Just goes to show you that even though the nuts are flanged and supposed to self lock, you never know. It is extreme good luck that i wasnt going wot at 45 or 50 MPH when this bolt deciced to leave it's place.
CHECK ALL FASTENERS ON A REGULAR BASIS!

I'm even thinking of comming up with some kind of safety chain or cable to tie the engine to the frame. Just In Case.even though the motor is fastened at 4 points.(2 mounts-2 shocks) I somehow have less confidence than i did yesterday

[replyingto=millsc]millsc[/replyingto]Not a bad Idea. I never gave it a thought, since I use the impact. I'm still puzzled as to how it came loose. Only around 50 miles since I had it out

I lkie drilling a hole throught the bolt and putting a cotter key through it. Good idea! That's why aircraft nuts and bolts are drilled with a safety-wire through them. It's SERIOUSLY unpleasant when an engine mount comes off at 20,000 feet... LOL! Ride safe,Leo in Texas
