many are selling this coil and cdi. don't waste your money. the coil has a loose fit and the cdi failed on my scoot in less than a month. www.ebay.com/itm/121122951933?ssPageName=STRKthis morning my scoot was a little hard to start and when i got it started the tach read over 4k rpm's at idle. it fixed itself in about 15 seconds. well, just now i tried to start and had major problems getting the engine running. when i finally did, the rpm's read over 14,000 at idle. i figured my gauge was faulty, it fixed itself in 30 seconds but was idling rough. played around with the carb but just couldn't get a smooth idle. took me a few minutes to realize the cdi might be bad. put the old one back on and all is good. ...now where can i order a GOOD RELIABLE cdi so i have a spare?

Oops... I've got one of those CDI's on my scoot. I had the "red" one for 5 years trouble-free, and ruined it by getting it wet. I got the "blue" one from the same seller (supposed to be a better CDI than the red one) and it's been running great for 500 miles. HOWEVER... you're NOT the first rider to complain about the blue one. I really thought these were all pretty much the same "guts" in different color-anodized extrusions. Maybe NOT!
I do believe I'll get another "red" one if I can find one, or the "orange" which seem to have no major issues, to keep as a spare.
Thanks for the "heads up".

All I find in 'performance' CDI's...including the ones they call 'advancing angle'....are pure rubbish. Everyone has hindered the Scoot..so the stock cheapie goes back in the Scoot.

John do you have the one alleyoop is using? i think his is yellow. been looking for that old post of his but can't find it. i really don't understand the difference other than a rev limiting cdi which i don't want, obviously. i just want one that is going to last for 5,000+ miles.

Alley got it from me, as long as it will last we are so far trouble free. I'm using that cdi as well. I would have to check the date of the post to tell you how long it has been. I would guess less than a year.

I would guess less than a year. John John..sure would like to know which CDI it is. Using a timing light I have only found one that truly advances..and the company has been out of them for 3 months. The other so called "Performace CDI's' showed a linear advance all through the rpm range..that being 8-12 degrees constant..from idle to WOT.. No advance curve..just straight up 8-12 degrees at all times.. That much advance at idle made the Scoots difficult to even start..

I have the blue one as well. I also have a gold one, same aluminum extrusion, only in a different color.I was under the impression they were identical too, maybe not. They are both new,so i will compare them and see if there is a difference in performance.
