It's amazing to me to watch how grown men are influenced and almost brainwashed by our society into how men should be defined. Hollywood, imo has had a lot to do with it. Over the years there's been actors like Steve McQueen and James Dean, John Wayne. Then there was Dennis Hopper. and Peter Fonda in Easy Rider and of course...the real men of 's Angels. All these imagines conjure up a masculinity that many men want to identify with. For whatever reason they want to have a tough guy image. Observe the average motorcycle rider and how they express their manly hood. They typically do not wear a helmet, many with a shaven head, facial hair, tattoos and of course leather, and don't forget the sunglasses. This is a person who obviously has a deep concern of what others think about him. If your definition of manhood is tied to what others think of you, than to me that's not a real man. Being a man has nothing to do with what others think.

Strange isn't it? "Rugged Individualists" that all look exactly alike, riding on a technological vehicle of mass production?

Being a man has nothing to do with what others think. I agree the only person I actually try to impress anymore is my wife. As long as she still digs me I'm cool. I really don't care what anyone else thinks and will tell them just that. Also my kids think I am the manliest man in the world. They proudly tell there friends that I ride a Vespa and when their friends say that their dad rides a Harley they say my dad rides his everyday... As long as the wife and kids think I'm manly I'm good...

Way to go Danno! It IS quite a phenomenon... I started riding in 1962, on a chopper. That was back when you had to do the "chopping" yourself. No custom parts available over the counter. I rode with an outlaw club, and back then, we were "good guys" helping others on the road, etc. We never gave a thought to how "manly" we were. We just loved NASTY bikes. I guess the "least-manly" of us was "Moose" at around 5' 2" and 120 pounds and resembling Pee Wee Herman. The "most-manly" was definitely "Tiny" at 6' 10" and 650 pounds and resembling the credit-card Vikings on TV. I can't remember us ever noticing anybody being "more or less" macho. We were all just pals who loved bikes. I had the decidedly nastiest bike. Little Moose rode another real beast, and huge Tiny rode a Honda 305... Looked like a mini-bike under him. Being "manly" has little to do with looking like a barbarian on the OUTSIDE, and a LOT to do with what a guy is on the INSIDE. I still love REALLY nasty big bikes, but I ride a scooter. I enjoy the neighbor's pit-bull, but I have a cat. Now I'm pushing 70, and the older I get, the more I see that appearances just don't define what a person really is... I was in the Special Forces, and still have friends who would rather be slaves than go to war. It's all a matter of personal opinion what you do and how you think... If you're old enough, you may remember in the 1970's business world when "real men" wore PINK "power-shirts" with their pinstripe 3-piece suits... I still have a couple of those from my "big-shot" executive VP days... LOL! I'd have loved to have had a "Hello Kitty" with an AK 47 tie-pin back then! I love your Italian-style scoot, and pink is as good a color as any... Better than some! Ride safe,Leo in Texas

Thanks Oldchopperguy, now an oldscooterguy....... Rob (scootnwinn) is right, I ride a Burgman. However, during my MSF training...I ask them for their biggest....baddest...scooter they had. When I got to the course they pulled out a pink Vino, very similar to the one in the picture, except it was all beat up and not very shiny. It was the biggest scooter they had. So for two days I was a real man riding pink. Danno

After looking at the last posting why do I suddenly have the urge to redecorate? My wife saw that helmet & jacket and asked it I would help her bleach her brain.
