So it wasn't a soft sieze but a retaining clip failure. Those things do happen. What about your original cylinder and piston did you toss/sell them when you did the upgrade? I didn't do the original upgrade I bought it that way. So no original parts. Thank God I was able to find some. I rode the other day with 2 P200s, 2 Stellas, 2 Buddy 125s, and a Blur. After talking to the Stella owners, they both had vintage Vespas and said the biggest thing they liked about their Stellas was not having to mix the gas and not worrying about getting vintage parts fixed. They also agreed that you choose style or you choose convenience, lol. So is the story of life. . Actually most of the guys I have spoken with find the LML engine in the Stella to be less reliable than a stock P motors. I don't mix my gas and oil its automatic. The P200E has circled the globe reliably many times over and is the only scooter I'm aware of that ever completed the Paris Dakar Rally. Those guys weren't all that familiar with the 200 engines of the 70's apparently. Also even the older ones if left stock or mildly tuned are quite reliable. You don't run a scooter company for 67 years by building unreliable bikes... You can have both style and convenience. I had it and if the circlip (non-Vespa part right?) hadn't failed or had been installed correctly I still would. On Monday she will ride again and she should go for many miles after that.

It made it around 2500 miles. I won't mention the name if the shop as I don't know if this is normal quality or just a freak mishap. Thanks for the support guys.

Vespa, Piaggio, Derbie or Aprilia they are all based on the Piaggio engines. Peugot also buys their engines from Piaggio as well as a few custom builders.
There are delivery companies that use the 250cc Aprilia Sport City and put about 25,000 miles per year on them.
A co-worker rides his old Vespa ET4 150 to work each day and so far in the past ten years that I have known him it has never broken down or failed him in any way. He grew up in Italy riding Vespas and Lambrettas for many years before moving to the USA.

A bit of an update I get to work on the bike today but unfortunately I won't be able to finish. I got all my parts on Friday but the rings were broken during shipping. Anyway I'll get the cases split and related today and slap the cylinder on when the rings come. Should be interesting
