Hi,
On my ATM50, I've noticed at speeds above 45MPH, the belt started making a chirping noise. I've opened the CVT housing, and see nothing peculiar, aside from a shiny ring on the variator. The whole variator looks like metal, but on the outside of the variator, it is shiny like a mirror. I know I mostly ride with open variator on this scooter (speeds above 35MPH), however, I don't think the problem is at the variator, as the sound comes from the back (the pulley).
Haven't checked the pulley yet, but I do think that perhaps the same thing is happening there. The pulley probably is polished up by the belt always being in the same place, at the beginning (or center) of the pulley, near the axis.
The funny thing is, that it does not chirp, when riding slower than 40-45MPH. Only happens when going faster than 45. Initially it started making noise, as I was doing a long ride, and thought that the belt must be very hot. I did an oilchange, both on CVT and engine, and the issue went away, until later today when I came back home. Like said, seems to happen only when I'm going faster than 42MPH, 45MPH mostly.
Today I've ridden about 1 minute @50-53MPH, and did not notice the chirping sound; only at the end of the trip.
What could it be? Any solution?
(Ow, forgot to mention, when the belt is cold, it sometimes stays up the variator. This makes me believe that either the variator, or the pulley is not giving sufficient pressure on the belt.
Ideas?

If the belt stays up on the Variator TIGHT not loose that indicates your Variator is not retracting to drop the belt down. Something is binding on the Variator and not sliding on the boss or the weights are getting stuck out on the Variator. It could be broken guides as well. If the belt is up high on the Variator LOOSE then the problem is your CLUTCH PULLEY that is staying open and not closing. Could be lack of grease on the pins and or slots or the contra spring. I presume it's the pulley's contra spring. Does it need to be lubricated somewhere? I could easily squeeze it in. I heard lots of people had a hard time opening it, but it's not that hard on mine....

Which situation is the belt staying up on the VARIATOR --LOOSE or TIGHT? That will tell you which of the two has the problem. Alleyoop

Very difficult to determine, only when I have the CVT opened while riding cold, I can determine this.
Belt squeek has grown worse... I'll have to look into it; just don't have the time right now....
