my header and exhaust all look okay.. no noticable leaks even at the flange. I will post up a pic in a minute.
The only time it does this pop sound is on this one hill off my road lol

Dang did you wash it first? That thing is clean. Is it just a single pop when it does it? I know the PAIR valve on my Burgman would sometimes cause a single loud pop when too rich. Happened like 4 times after altitude changes in the 6000 miles I put on it...
Did you check the intake side for leaks and tightness?

Where exactly when you say intake side? air filter area?

Right air filter housing to carb and carb to engine. A single pop is kinda strange sounds like what the Burgman used to do...
Not sure the systems are the same though...

[replyingto=scoots]scoots[/replyingto]Its only supposed to growl,, If you want it to back fire you have to lean it out and that's not a good idea,,not sure if a key shot will work on a scooter GY6 motor,,i remember my 77 firebird 400 small block would key shot so loud like a 12 gauge shotgun going off!,,i blew both new mufflers right off it,,man the old man kicked my rear for that,,we spent all afternoon building a custom side pipe exhaust for it with 2 chamber flowmasters

The only time it does this pop sound is on this one hill off my road lol Scootnwinn said it to rich. So your going up a HILL at WOT is that right? If so it pops because it is RICH, your RPMS dropped and it is sucking in to much fuel with the wide open throttle for the rpms. You could get the next smaller main jet or setup your CVT so that is does not loose rpms going up a hill just mph. Alleyoop And for those that think BACKFIRING IS COOL, let us know when it destroys your exhaust valve or even the piston.

No, its DOWNHILL.
Just that one hill , funny
I hardly ever run it WOT but I get close a lot, but mainly cruise

Ok downhill so your backing off the throttle and letting the motor break some or what. If so it is the other Pops on decel is LEAN but that can be fixed by riching fuel ratio a little. Alleyoop

Ya, I am going downhill, off throttle
Do you really think I should mess with the mixture? Never done that before and I fear I'll mess it up
Bike runs fine, though too slow sometimes but I think when it gets really humid out it slows up the bike. Took it out at night when it was cooler and seemed to be a bit more power

It should not take more than 1/4 -1/2 turn counterclock to stop the popping. And motors always make more power in cooler weather due to the air density because the current sitting all of a sudden makes the mixture a little LEAN. Alleyoop

Check the crappy PAIR valve system. Or you could just rip it out and fabricate a block off plate for the exhaust port (like I did). Mine backfired like the dickens and spit blue flames out of the muffler (on hard deccel) until I made a block-off plate for this. Dom, don't be afraid to fiddle with the A/F screw or try adjusting the main jet needle. Both are very easy to do and may put a big smile on your face after. One notch on the needle is definitely enough to change how it runs. I keep my needle one notch higher than where it seems to run the best (I've been warned about "lean & mean" from several sources, lol)

If you never adjusted the A/F screw I think you should do it,,just crank it in till the motor starts to die,,then back it out till the RPM just reaches its fastest point,,from here you can go in clockwise 1/8 turn or out 1/8 more,,I would try it right where the RPM hits the fastest point and see if it cured it,,if not,,back it out a hair like Alley said.Your not gonna mess anything up by touching the screw Dom...just do what we say and you will be fine.
