For a car it's much easier, because every gear passes Neutral. But for a bike it's a dangerous thing! Upshifting is easy, downshifting is hard. You got to rev up, and gear tooth can chip when not connecting fast enough, resulting in gear problems.

Well Ive never had that happen, but i don't do this all the time.. It's strictly if i have to get home and have no other options...

To shift without a working clutch you also need a good battery as you will be starting in gear too get going again at every stop. It can be done however one missed shift and you can wreck the transmission.
You shift when the engine load and speed dictates. It is all variable depending on whether you are hitting a head wind, going up or down hill, have a passenger, etc.
