I'm thinking about going back to school. Have done junior level college classes majoring in psychology and philosophy. Was doing a double major but before I quit I was going to change to Psych major and philo minor. I failed nearly all my classes the last time I quit due to personal things. I am thinking about going back to finish my Psych major so I can get a job somewhere and somewhat enjoy my work. Maybe social work?
On another note, I am thinking about taking art classes and doing art. I have always been good at visual arts but you can't really make a living doing that. I am thinking maybe digital arts (graphic design).
I may finish the degree if I can (not sure I can get my hope scholarship any more) and then go into art somewhere.
Anyhow, I'm pushing 35 years old and living at home with my mom. That really doesn't bother me, but I want to start something I would somewhat enjoy rather than working retail or doing warehouse work.

Thanks for the link. Working in a warehouse is okay I suppose but it can be very repetitive and not very fullfilling. I guess a lot of stuff is. I would love to find something where I'm working out in "the field" or more creative, working for myself would be really cool but I'd work for a business if it was impactfull Guess I need to look into school more Maybe I'll just take some classes in graphic arts and learn Photoshop

I went back to school after working 10 years making very little money. I am going to study physical therapy and become an assistant. I say go do it. Wish I would have 5 years ago.

I second jeff. Go do it. Except maybe not art. I have a BFA and work at Kinko's. Which I'll say used to be massively fulfilling, helping people with their various projects. Not so much now, with things sort of rotting out from the top down. Sigh.
But having taken classes post-graduating, I'll tell you that you get a lot more out of them now that you're older and really want the classes rather than when you're younger and an idiot and because college is expected after high school.

Social work may be personally rewarding, but it don't pay for crap. I say specialise in a medical field

dom', you'll be amazed how little you actually forgot. A lot will come back to you once you start taking classes again.

I see people several times a week coming into the clinic to get shots for a program they are going into. I always ask them questions about the field of work, why they are doing it and if they have talked to people in that field about the opportunities and the pay. Most have not, they have no clue as to what the direction they are going will do for them or really to them. Here is my two cents for you. Do the psyc thing. There is a tremendous need for mental health practitioners in this country. Notice I did not say social workers. There is a profession called a licensed clinical social worker, that may be a good option and it may require just a B.A. that could depend on your state it is possible that an M.A. is the entry level, I do not know. Pay scale is something I just do not know about. Ask Old Chopper Guy about the opportunities for artist, he was in that industry. I was a respiratory therapist for 30 years and at age 50 went to physician assistant school, it cost a good bit of money and I would not recommend getting student loans if at all possible. Should you go into mental health look at the web page for the Nation Health Services Corps, nhsc.hrsa.gov/ also check the loan repayment program nhsc.hrsa.gov/loanrepayment/ they also have a scholarship program nhsc.hrsa.gov/scholarships/overview/

Thank you for the links and kind words of advice, Doug. I will do some research. I enjoy helping people and like the idea of being out in the field working with people, and doing something new every day.. it would be nice to work in a field where I'm moving around and doing my own "thing". I like the freedom of a job where my boss isn't looking over my shoulder. Where I can set my own schedule somewhat. Have coffee when I want. I worked in the cleaning business washing windows on buildings and it was very free that way. Totally different business from what I'm talking about getting into, but I like working "out in the field".
Not sure basically, on what I want to do, art or psych, or something else.. Its been hard to find any work now so while I'm between employment I might as well think about going back to school
