hey im new to this scooter thing just picked up a 1986 Yamaha riva scooter i had it running when i bought it but i took off all the plastic panels to paint them and now it wont start when i put it back together. the only wires that i disconnected were for the lights and i plugged them all back in but now when i try to start it it doesn't do anything just kills the lights ive charged the battery even tried a new battery but still the same ive crossed over the solenoid it tries to start but still wont start what should i do

I have NO experience with the Riva, but it may have a manual "kill-switch" like the Chinese scoots. If so, you could have accidentally engaged it while working on the scooter. I've done that by opening my seat and resting it against the dash. Anyway, it's worth a look-see.

I think the Rivas had an issue with the auto choke circuit going bad making cold starts difficult or inmpossible. It sounds like yours isn't even turning over though. Does it have a side stand lock out switch? Some bikes won't start with the side stand down. Some bikes won't start without the brake lever pulled...

yes! once i started checking all the saftey features ie pulled braked side stand i found the side stand switch was stuck on thanks for your knowledge
